How long does it take to kno if you have Hepatitis A, B, or C after contracting it?? Maybe never because SOME individuals get the disease, develop antibodies to it, and their bodies take care of the infection without ever getting sick. Hepatitis B is HIGHLY contageous and can actually be spread through kissing. Fortunately, there are tests for hepatitis and there is actually a vaccine for Hepatitis B. If you believe that you have been exposed to hepatitis, you can get a "Gamma Gobulin" shot from your physician. I do not recommend waiting for symptoms because hepatitis can be a serious disease causing severe liver damage. Generally symptoms from Hepatitis A will show up 1 week after infection. Symptoms from Hepatitis B can also show up around 1 or 2 weeks. You don't always show symptoms for Hep B though. You may carry the virus and never show symptoms and you may never get sick from it. You can still pass it on to others though. Hepatitis C progresses very slowly anywhere from 10 to 30 years. A doctor can give you a simple blood test to find out if you have Hepatitis. Remember - Hepatitis B & C are transmitted from blood to blood. Often times people consider Hepatitis B to be an STD, as it can be transmitted through blood to a mucous membrane. You cannot get Hepatitis B from kissing (unless there is blood present) |
