My dad just found out that he's infected with hepatitis b,is that something to worry about?? |
I know what hepatitis B is,but I don't know how serious it is.Is it fatal?..and do you know any diet tips that may help? Hello Hep B is very serious and can cause cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer and liver failure. It is important not to share razors and tooth brushes they can be contaminated with blood which poses a threat of infection. There are treatments for Hep B, there is no cure. Your dad should be seeing a gastronentologist for the best treatment possible. The family should also talk to their doctor about getting Hep B inoculations. Which consist of a series of 3 shots that protect someone who's not infected from getting Hep B. I don't know of any specific diet that would help. Alcohol should be avoided so further damage is not being done to the liver. Hope this helps well its bad but can be controlled he can drink or do drugs because it effects the liver yes it is thats realy bad He needs to get treated. This is not fatal if treated. In a severe case, if not treated, it can lead to a liver failure and other health issues.... Many people live normal lives with hepatitis b, just make sure that he gets the proper treatment. Yes it is serious, actually theres no treatment available yet the main goal is to prevent further damage to the liver by giving some supplements like essentiale, silymarins etc. Eliminate vices that could damage the liver esp alcohols, fatty foods etc. If it is first stage the diet is High protein, high carb, low fat, high calories but in the late stage i think u need to reduce protein coz the liver cannot metabolize it to be wasted out from the body and hence accumulated in the blood and may affect the brain as toxin (ammonia), High carb, low fat. I'm not sure, collaborate the proper nutrition to dietician. Liver cirrhosis(hardening of the liver) is the worst scenario. Inquire about vaccine for you if you are not yet infected (usu it is acquired thru blood transfusion, etc) Hepatitis B predisposes a person into developing a possible liver malignancy and/or cirrhosis but not all patients go into it. Hepatitis B progression is unusual and treatment is rarely indicated. If you are living in one house, Preventive measures can be done for casual or household contacts. Infants of less than 12 months and adult contacts who are exposed to personal items like razors or shaves, should receive HBIG (Hepatitis B ImmuneGlobulins) plus the vaccination series. Ask your internist about it. If the index hepatitis patient develops a chronic carrier state, all household contact should receive the vaccination series. |
