Is my blood pressure high, if so what to do? |
I just got my blood pressure taken and it was 154 over 93. I am 21 years old and the person was flippin out that it was too high. What can I do or do I need to do anything right now. I am very active, I am a professional tennis player, so my fitness is good. Help please. Yes thats way too high for you...could be genetics...if your are fit and exercise...may need to take meds..which dilate/make your arteries bigger so there is not so much resistence.other meds work on a chemical that your kidney puts out which can raise Blood pressue...the med blocks this chemical. That is high...exp. for your age and exercise. Maybe you should watch the sodium in your diet. If it consistenly stays high, I would talk to you doctor about getting your heart looked into further. Hope this helps...soon to be nurse!!! Yes it is slightly high but just get it checked out by the doctor. Its nothing like hypertension unless you have had many readings like that. Two ways to reduce blood pressure would be to avoid having too much sodium, and to ask your doctor for a medication to lower blood pressure. I'm sure they'd have suggestions, too. I hope this helps! Well , what were you doing before you had it taken ? And possibly it's high because you were in a Dr. office . That happens . Take it when you are relaxed and see what it is. If you are a pro tennis player and have a blood pressure that high, you should see a doctor. Typically exercise will lower b/p rather than raise it. Watch the salt in your diet also, as it can raise the b/p also. 154 is just a tad high, the docs like it under 150 and the 93 is high, should run around 80. Seriously, have it checked out, you may just need some meds to bring it down some. You are in serious trouble at that age and it is either genetic or you, you need a complete blood chemistry and full medical check up. You heart is working very hard with that blood pressure so do not put it under any more stress, I would have to assume that the person who took your blood pressure was not a nurse or doctor because they would have ordered tests at once. There is an art to taking blood pressure so make sure that you do have high blood pressure before you scare youself to death. It should be taken when you are resting, not when you are active unless you are having cardiac studies done. You are hypertensive. You have a healthy lifestyle but how's your diet? You trim down fats and salts. Have enough rest. Then, reevaluate. It is a little on the high side but the first and most simple thing to do is to have it rechecked again on a couple of occasions by your doctor. |
