Symptoms of high blood pressure?

recently been feeling light headed a lot... this is usually accompanied by a slight pain in the back of my head (just before my neck starts). sometimes, this is followed by me feeling like I want to vomit... can this be signs of high blood pressure? I'm only 23 and recently quit smoking... and have also been getting physical lately. High blood pressure runs in my family though.

i don't know if this can be symptoms of high blood pressure or a pre-menstrual symptom. those feelings sometimes occurs after i eat a high fat diet. if it may be relevant at all, my weight is only 108lbs which i think is normal for my age and height.

Headaches, palpitations.. feeling lightheaded is prob related to you giving up smoking. See your Gp and get a health check.

This sounds like a multilayered problem, first of all get your blood pressure checked and do a daily charting for several weeks to see what is going on with your blood pressure and if it is high get it treated you are never too young to have high blood pressure and it could be signs of other problems both heart and artery related, that along with the headaches could be premenstrual related, Since it runs in the family I would most definitely have it check ed and look for any other related problems that are related to the other problems you are having

First I urge you to go to see your Doctor. These symptoms could indeed indicate high blood pressure. There are other conditions that could be present and can only be diagnosed by a medical exam. It's great that you were able to quit smoking and your weight should work in your favor. Working with your MD can give you an approach to moderate your lifestyle and return you to great health. Good luck to you.

There are NO symptons of high b.p., which is why it is often called the silent killer. Your symptoms seem to suggest anxiety, which would be expected after stopping smoking.

Good answers here

I agree - the main problem with high blood pressure is that it usually causes no symptoms at all and you dont know you've got it until disaster strikes. ( http://www.bloodpressurehigh.com )
The symptoms could be due to lots of things - including stress, stopping smoking and maybe - as you say - hormone changes.

Definitely worth getting a one off check from your doctor though.

Hope this helps

I have HBP and I do have the symptoms you describe, but this is not something to fool around with and you need to see a Doctor ,because HBP is called the silent killer for a reason.
Please see your Doctor ASAP and if it is HBP the Dr. can get it under control.
Good Luck

If you have episodes like this, I'd agree to see a doctor. Glad to hear you've quit smoking, it can be trouble later on.

Please try to eat healthy and educate yourself on health issues instead of relying on doctors though. It goes w/o saying this country's "health care" system is a mess. Drugs are not the answer, and do not cure anything. They provide a crutch, are toxic/poisonous and sustain you so you can choose to behave irresponsibly. I monitor my own blood results (with the help of my wife who is an ND), you only need a lab for that. I also look at other indicators to monitor my own health, how I feel, my weight, bp, etc. You don't need a doctor who's trained for drugs and surgery to do that. High blood pressure is *usually* caused by high cholesterol/plaque build up that coats the inside of your arteries and causes lower volume and resulting higher blood pressure because you have the same volume of blood. If you connect a smaller diameter water hose to the spicket, pressure goes up right? With a larger diameter water hose, the pressure is not nearly as high. Same goes for your blood pressure. With higher blood pressure, that's why so many are on a salt-free diet. Salt wicks up water, and if you have salt in your blood, that raises your blood pressure even more. A lot of times, high blood pressure is treated with a diuretic to remove water from your blood (not healthy) so you're now dehydrated at a cellular level. If you were really healthy and able to sustain yourself w/o drugs, that wouldn't be an issue.

You also may not be eating as healthy as you think. For the most part, genetics play little of a role in our health, it's more likely that the cookbook runs in the family. There are certainly genetic disorders that are possible, it's just less likely than the medical community would have you think. It's almost like they profit off our ignorance. Hmmm...

Feeling light headed is more likely to be a symptom of low blood pressure than high blood pressure.

The best way to be sure is to have your blood pressure taken, high blood pressure often presents with no symptoms at all.
