How do I lower my blood pressure as it is extremely high?

Please help me. My blood pressure iss very high its been like this for months now it its not coming down. How can i reduce it?

First: Your doctor must be monitoring your condition to see if you are improving or still need to make modifications. Always discuss your concerns with your doctor, which include ways to reduce your blood pressure. You did not tell us what your readings range so here are the classifications:

Prehypertension: 120-139 [systolic] or 80-89 [diastolic] requires education, lifestyle modifications

Stage I: 140鈥?59 [systolic] or 90鈥?9 [diastolic] requires lifestyle modifications & thiazide diuretic. If not well controlled with diuretic, then an ACE Inhibiter, or ARB, or BB, or CCB will be added

Stage II: 160 [systolic] or 100 [diastolic] requires lifestyle modifications & thiazide diuretic & ACEI or ARB or BB or CCB.

Primary hypertension has no known cause [90-95% of cases]. Secondary hypertension could be caused by:
Kidney: renal artery stenosis, congenital renal disease, diabetic nephropathy
Endocrine: Cushing鈥檚, hyperaldosteronism, pheochromocytoma
Coarctation of the aorta
Birth control pills, ERT
Neurogenic: brain tumors, increased intracranial pressure, quadriplegia
Inherited artery disease
Meds: cocaine, MAO inhibitors combined w/certain foods

Risk factors that you cannot change are:
Males: until age 55... then females catch up
African-Americans: especially males
Family history
Age: 50% of those over age 50 have hypertension

Risk factors that you can change:
Obesity
High sodium diet
Smoking
High serum lipids [blood fats, ie cholesterol, triglycerides, etc]
Sedentary lifestyle

TREATMENTS
You can reduce your risk of high blood pressure and reduce your blood pressure by changing the modifiable risk factors. Aka reducing your serum lipids, sodium intake, and weight.

Non-drug methods:
Weight management
DASH diet - I posted a website in the source section. It's a great start to help you with the dash diet.
Low sodium-low fat diet
Salt < 6 Gm/day
Stop Smoking
Restrict alcohol and caffeine
Regular aerobic exercise
Stress management - ie bio-feedback, relaxation, yoga, Tai Chi

The medications are:
Diuretics- makes you pee out extra fluids in your body, to reduce blood volume. High blood volume places greater pressure on your blood vessels.
Thiazide: first line: hydrochlorothiazide
Loop diuretics: furosemide
Potassium sparing: Aldactone (blocks aldosterone)

Beta adrenergic blockers [BAB]
Decrease heart rate, force of contraction, workload
Cardioselective: atenolol
Non-cardioselective: propranolol
Alpha blocker: decrease PVR: Catapres, Minipress

Calcium channel blockers [CCB]
decrease the influx of Ca++ into muscle cells
Nondihydropyridines: 飪?HR & contractility: diltiazem
Dihydropyridines: dilate blood vessels: amlodipine

Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors
Inhibits formation of angiotensin II: dilates blood vessels
1st line for clients with diabetes mellitus, heart failure, impaired renal function
