High blood Pressure (at just 15) 10 pts easily?

Today at school we went and did disecting and vital sgn checking...
so we took our blood pressure and everyone's was around 100-105 and I took mine and it was
137/81
but I am only 15, I am 5 ft. 8 inches and I weigh 170 ( i know i am like 20 pounds over weight...but i dont think that would do anything.
is this normal...it kind of scares me....
high BP runs in my family.....is my BP high??
***please answer...it's scaring me...the way my teacher made such a big deal about it*** in front of EVERYONE!

i also have a low grade fever of 99.9

i dont know if that would make a difference

Average blood pressure for an adult is 120/60. If your blood pressure is normally 137/81 then you are in a classification called stage 1 hypertension (even for an adult). Believe it or not, being overweight is one of the biggest factors of hypertension (high blood pressure). Along with your family history, I think that it is worth getting checked out by a doctor. I would make an appointment. Other things that you can do would be to cut the amount of salt in the foods that you eat, and make sure that you are drinking enough water. You may find out that your blood pressure is not that high all the time. You could have been anxious, or the fever could possibly have elevated it a little. I would go to a doctor either way, just to be on the safe side.

Your BP is borderline high (Your teacher didn't have to do a rain-dance over it). There is a lot of hidden salt (sodium) in the American diet. Eliminate it, and your BP should come down.

well no i dont think its high ,, if u are overweight i think that wouldnt have alot to do with it. look it up on webmd.com just to be sure

Hi,
I'm 6'2'' my weight is 235, i'm like 30 pounds over W
and my BP is 120/73.

Visit your Doctor, i think is high for your age.

The fever may count. 137/81 is not a figure to panic over. What were you doing just before the reading? If you are really worried, take several measurements over a few days while you are sitting down and relaxed. If you are still high, see a doctor. One isolated reading is not enough.

a one time reading of blood pressure is not enough to determine wether it's high or not, and that number is not to far off what it should be, and there are several things that can make it go up and down in just a few minutes, your emotional state can affect it, wether or not you've been excercising recently, how you feel, one reading of just being a little bit high is not a bad thing, and that is not even really that high.
you dont have to worry unless it is consistant readings that are high over a long period of time.
