High blood pressure at 9 weeks pregnant?

I went for my first prenatal checkup last week. They took my blood pressure and said it was high. I've never been told I have high blood pressure before! I told her I was probably just nervous and she said "You must be really nervous!" It had just been checked 3 weeks earlier by my family doctor when I went there for a pregnancy test and they didn't tell me anything was abnormal. I go back to the doc in a few days but I wanted to see if anyone has heard of this happening before.

Every time I go for prenatal apoointments my BP is sky-high. If you've never had trouble with it before, chances are excellent that its really all due to nerves. Think about it--you're in a doctor's office, probably scared because it's your first pregnancy and you are nervous about miscarriage, etc.

A case in point: I went in for an unscheduled ultrasound because of bleeding. Of course, I was scared because of the bleeding. When they checked my blood pressure, it was about 150/100. That's very, very high for me! (I'm normally 110/70). Lo and behold, after the ultrasound and after I found out everything was fine, they rechecked my BP and SURPRISE it was back down to normal levels.

I have a blood pressure cuff at home and check my pressure every now and then, and it's always normal when I'm at home. I explain this to the doctor when I go in for checkups, and they haven't made any mention of my high readings since. I'm sure you're fine and probably dealing with the same scenario as I am!
