High Blood Pressure and Pregnant.... Input Please?

I just want to know who has been pregnant and had to go on blood pressure medications? what was the medication and how much of it did you take? Im on BP medicine, and I really dont feel comfortable taking it, but I have no choice. So I just wanted some input.... what month did you start taking it? and was your baby born healthy? Thanks in advance for the answers and the reasurrance. =)

Oh and Im 24 weeks and have been on Toprol 25mg for 2 weeks so far.

Which one are you taking? I was taking metoprolol before I got pregnant, which is a category C drug. Then they switched me to pindolol, which is a category B. Didn't work as well. I tried going without the drugs for a while, but it was terrible and i couldn't handle it. My baby was perfect. I started taking the meds again after about 6 months. I take a small dosage of the pindolol once in the AM and once at night, 10 mg. They did extra ultrasounds later in the second and third trimesters to make sure I had enough amniotic fluid and that the baby was growing and putting on weight, as beta blockers sometimes lead to smaller babies. My son got an 8 on his apgar, so he was perfectly fine from birth onward.

Talk to your doctor. If you're not comfortable with the Toprol (metoprolol) there are other medicines in the same family (beta-blockers) with a different pregnancy category. Metoprolol is pregnancy category C which basically means that the risk of harm from taking the medicine is less than the risk of harm to the baby by whatever is being treated (in your case, high blood pressure).

Its ok to be nervous and its ok to ask your doctor questions. You and your doctor want what's best for you and your baby. If you're not comfortable with the Toprol, your doctor will work with you to either explain why you need the Toprol, and reassure you that he/she has delivered a gazillion healthy babies to moms taking Toprol, or he/she'll change your med to another to see if it works both on your blood pressure and putting your mind at ease.

Best of luck in your pregnancy!

I have had high blood pressure for a few yrs now and now 7 months prego when the dr founf out they took me off my med. I was on maxide my pressure is fine now and im doing good haven't needed any meds so far. I have heard of people being on meds for blood pressure while prego and you will be fine continue to take the med your dr won't give you anything that will harm your child. For them to have pur you on the med you must need it.

im sorry sunshine. i had high blood pressure in my later months, but it wasn't bad to where medication was needed to control it.... they wouldn't give you anything to endanger the baby. if you feel that strongly about it i would sit the doc down and tell him or her how much its affecting you. you being stressed about that wont help your pressure either. but im sure you will be fine. your pressue may go down in a couple weeks and you wont need it anymore! =) think happy thoughts! congrats and feel better mama!

i had high blood pressure and they had to induce my labor at 35 weeks. my son was born premmature and he was in the hospital for 1 month. but he didnt have any trouble with anything. and right now he is gaining weight really fast. good luck

I was on Hb pressure meds with my last pregnancy, started them about 6 months, it was call methodpha? something like that. And i took it twice a day, and my baby was fine she is now 2 and healthy.

I've never been there myself but from what I understand, pre-e is a big concern. Talk to your dr and let him/her know how you feel about it. Some drs will take that into consideration.

I had high blood pressure when i was pregnant, I dont remember what i was on or how much... but it's now 8 years later and i have a completely normal, healthy girl...
