High Blood Pressure and Pregnancy??

I'm 36 weeks pregnant today and went to the doctor yesterday, it was mentioned that my bp had skyrocketed-maybe because the baby was moving. I was wondering what could happen due to high blood pressure, and also how I could try to make sure that my blood pressure is down. Thanks

They didn't really say a lot about it. It was just mentioned. I had walked a block to the doctors office and I was
nervous about the beta strip test as well. I would have thought they would have said a lot about it if it was a really big deal. They havent said anything about it before.

High blood pressure can cause you to have a heart attack or a stroke. It can also cause placental abruption (it's scary, so I won't describe it), but my doctor told me that rarely happens.

If this is the first time you've had high blood pressure, then they'll just monitor you for now. They may want you to come in more frequently, but they might just keep you at once a week (depends on the doctor). If they notice that the blood pressure isn't coming down, they may want to induce once you hit 37 weeks (again, depends on the doctor).

In the meantime, drink plenty of water, avoid stress, and watch your salt intake. Also, rest as much as possible. Laying down will help bring down your blood pressure.

If you notice severe headaches, blurred or spotty vision, extreme swelling in your legs, or severe pain behind your ribs (not associated with baby kicking there) then you should call your doctor right away.

Ultimately though, I'm sure everything will work out fine. I've battled high blood pressure my entire pregnancy. Once it hit 160/90 at 30 weeks, I was put on medication and modified bed rest. Since then, my blood pressure has returned to normal (though I'm still instructed to rest often and take the medicine) and I'm expected to be able to continue the pregnancy and go into labor naturally.

Good luck!

please please go to the ER i was 35 weeks preg and i had preeclampsia you are putting your babys life and your life at risk! tell them you dont feel good you want them to check you for preeclampsia. I had to have a csection 5 weeks early with my son he was only 3p 6 oz but is healthy now! please please go to the ER and L&D cause my mom lost a baby due to preeclampsia

You must be very careful, if you have high blood pressure and if you have got swelling anywhere, eg, hand, feet and legs then you must go to the hospital because of the chance of pre-eclampsia (not sure of spelling). Please be careful, pre-eclampsia is dangerous for you and baby.

I'm sure that your Doc already told you to lay on your left side and avoid any stress or strenuous activity. The Doc will try to keep you preg. as long as possible but if your BP does not come under control you will probably be induced or have a c-section.

Put your feet up and call some friends or relatives that can help out. Don't be ashamed to ask. A lot of people can and will help.

Your doc does seem wierd that they did not recheck your bp when it came up high. They usually make you lay down for a half hour on your left side and take it again. The baby moving is not a good reason for the doc to give you, I would ask some more questions at this week's visit.

Watch out for headaches and seeing sparkly dots in your vision these are some signs that you need to call and have your BP checked right away.

if you have swelling in your face or hands and protein in your urine along with the high bp it could become preeclampsia. just stay rested and lay on your left side, drink plenty if water, and keep your feet propped if you are swelling in your feet

please pay attention to this i was 34 weeks when the doctor discover preeclampsia when my blood pressure had been high for a while and he just let it go to stress or heat or the baby moving i almost had a stroke and my babys cord was compressed i had to have an emergency c section to save my baby

if you start having headaches all the time or for prolonged periods call your doctor or the hospital if you start to see spots go to the er .if you start to swell or swell very quickly go to the er please be carefull this is serious you and your baby could be at risk

How high is your bp? PIH can turn into preeclampsia really quickly. Look for swelling, of the feet, hands. and face, try not to exert yourself too much. lay down on you left side and try to noly get up to use the bathroom
I had my twins at 32 weeks. My bp was 195/115. my entire left side of my face was like, paralyzed, my ankles were like huge grapefruit, and I saw fear in my ob/gyn's face when he saw how I looked, and how high my bp was.
This can be very serious. My twins were taken via c-section, and I have always had high blood pressure since then, so once you have the baby you need to see if the baby was the only cause of the blood pressure.
you need to get checked out. you life and the baby's life could possibly be at stake here.

I was in the same boat. My blood pressure was perfect up until my 34 week appointment. Then all of a sudden it was high and they had to check it 3-4 times at each appointment. I also started swelling some in my feet and ankles so they suspected preeclampsia.

At my 39 week appointment it was high again and I was sent over to the hospital for blood pressure checks and blood testing. They were also monitoring my baby. Eventually they decided to induce me because I was so far along and they didn't want to risk anything. I was induced at 5:30 that night and had my baby boy the next morning at 9:42 by emergency cesarean.
