High blood pressure in late pregnancy/pre-eclampsia Q?

I am 40+2 and just had my midwife appt.

My blood pressure was very high (has been climbing every week in addition to feet a size bigger and fingers 7 ring sizes bigger) so she left it and did my other checks and came back to it (still very high).

She wants me to go to the drop in clinic on Monday morning first thing to get it checked again. I said, what happens if its still high and she gave me a sympathetic smile and said 'you'd have to go straight to the hospital'.

What I don't know is - what happens when I am there? Obviously she is saying the baby would need to come out but how would they get it out? Would they try to induce me or would it mean a c-section?

Did anybody else have the same experience? what was the method of speeding up birth?

Thanks x

The standard things they will check is hourly BP, a 24 hour urine sample for protein (proteinuria), your reflexes, ask you about your vision and headaches and so on. There's 3 symptoms needed for a diagnosis of pre-eclampsia, and they are elevated BP, proteinuria, and oedema (swelling of the feet and hands).
Given you are 40+2, it is not likely that time will be spent looking too much into controlling it. It will simply be easier to begin inducing you, and failing your labour progressing, a caesararian. You've got as good a chance as anyone of having a normal vaginal delivery, but any sign of fetal distress will lead to an emergency section. Be prepared for it, but do not be alarmed. I'm going to have my 3rd "emergency" (as it is unknown when it will actually reach that point of 'no return!') caesar due to pre-eclampsia in a few weeks, and I and my babies are all fine.

Best wishes to you!

I am 28 weeks and just got diagnosed with Pre-E a week ago. They told me that the only way to "fix" it is to get the baby out. Since you are beyond full term, there is no problems with getting your baby out. If your BP is still high, you will more than likely be sent to the hospital for monitoring, possibly for a day or 2, and if you haven't gone into labor onyour own yet, they would likely induce you. They usually only will do a C-Section if you had had one before or if there is a medical reason you cannot have a vaginal delivery. It is possible though, if your BP is off the charts high, they might go ahead and do a C-Section because they don't want your condition to get worse and the baby to be in distress. Either way, don't worry, you are so close. I'm sure everything will work out! Congrats & good luck!

major problem women face with preclampsia is high BP and albumin in urine.U should see that u may not land up into pre eclampsia. plan a proper diet plan and when ever u have any headache u should report to the doc. u may even have a seizure so make sure that ur surrounding are safe and u have some one next to you. probably u may need a CS. dont worry u will b fine.

well that happen to me in my 8th month. i was doing weekly urine checks and i also developed diabetes. well i was in the hospital a week before the baby came and they would check your blood pressure like every hour and they hooked me up to a iv of magnesium solfate. that will help your pressure go down. it will also relaxe your smooth muscles so then you will be on bed rest. they also did a amniocentesis. sorry the spelling is off a little. well with the amnio that will tell the baby's weight, lung development. so if they would have to induse you to give birth. how far along are you?

Yes I did and I had a C section. My daughter is going through it now. She has the high blood pressure, protein in urine and last night was sick to her stomach. She's going back this morning to see her doctor.
