Did you have high blood pressure while pregnant?

Towards the end of my pregnancy my blood pressure was a little high..not too bad, my dr kept calling it "mild preeclampsia". Then a week after I had the baby I got a bladder infection and kidney infection and was hospitalized and my blood pressure was high during that time. I went to the dr for my 6 week checkup and my bp was back to normal 129/78 (decent), but I've been getting headaches alot more now. Can pregnancy cause you to have high blood pressure forever??? Or should I be okay?

At every visit to my OB during my entire pregnancy my BP was just fine. Then suddenly, on my due date, I had one last visit to the doctor and my BP had raised up to 155/90. The doctor didn't make a fuss over it since it wasn't "dangerously high" and I hadn't had high BP before. However, I went into labor that night, went to the hospital, and all hell broke loose. My BP wouldn't go down, strangely my platelet count had dropped (that's what keeps your blood clotting), I had protein in my urine, and my anxiety level skyrocked, making the BP only climb further. With low platelets, having an epidural was out of the question, so I was a miserable human being. Ultimately, I ended up having an emergency c-section.

After the birth of the baby, pre-eclampsic symptoms generally disappear immediately. My doctor said in some cases the symptoms linger for awhile. Mine lingered, that's for sure! Within two days of being discharged from the hospital, I had to be re-hospitalized because of my BP and what felt like anxiety attacks. Luckily, it was only for one night. It was heartbreaking to be away from my baby who was only a little more than a week old.

Now, 6.5 weeks later, I'm doing much better, the BP is stabilized and I'm healing well from the c-section.

I'm glad to hear your BP lowered. Perhaps the headaches are stress headaches. There's a lot of stress (good and bad) in adjusting to motherhood. Also, the hormones may be playing a big part in the headaches.

Best wishes to you. Enjoy your little one's first Christmas!!

I was induced at 37 weeks because my bp was 173/107
Right after I had her I was fine, then about 3 days later I swelled up like a balloon and my bp went back up to 155/102 but the next day it was fine.
It it really was caused by pregnancy I don't think it could cause you to have hypertension forever. They say the only cure to preeclampsia is having the baby.

Aghhh i had shockingly high blood pressure the highest mine got was 155/90(just went and looked in my litle book lol)
I also had potein in urine and swelling
I had a UTI during and everything when pregnant but not after
Mine has come back down to normal range but my son is now 5 months
I reakon yours wil decrease slowly but will come down!!
It can cause you to have slightly elevated than your usual or a long time but if it gets unbareable i would talk about blood pressure pills with your doc

Goodluck hope all is well

not at all which is supprising as it runs in my family
hope all is well now
good luck

I have hypertension all the time, and in pregnancy it was a little higher then normal. I had to take meds though. 2 days before my son was delivered, I was totally scared and stressed because of a complication that my BP went up to 172/120...but this was because I was crying and very terrified that I had to be flown out to a different town.
I don't think pregnancy will cause you to have hypertension forever. And having headaches are signs of lots of things. I would ask your doctor again if they persist though...plus if you gained lots of weight and haven't lost it yet, that can make your BP stay elevated.
