What does it mean to have high blood pressure? Easy 10 points!?

My boyfriend was feeling dizzy and nausea's the other day, we went to Walmart that night and u know they have a machine to measure your blood pressure right, well his was like 144 which if we read it right it was high like 4 points, is this bad? What effects can it have on the body? What causes u to have a high blood pressure?

144 is not considered too high, I mean not severe or anything. Clinical blood pressure is usually when someone has high bp 3 seperate times by a doctor. High blood pressure is consider at 140 or higher. However, thats where it starts, so 144 isnt great, but its really not super high, especially if young.
What can cause high BP? Several, stress, eating habits, but I think most commonly anxiety. Also, since you said your b/f was feeling dizzy, could have been anxiety. Dizziness is a symptom of that. Also a hyper thyroid that causes anxiety can do it, which I dont think he would have.If the high BP was just temporary, being it didnt last long, then its prob nothing. However, if there are gentical cardiovascular problems, then if it continues, you might wanna get it checked. Also note, that some BP machines or readers can be off by a little. It depends how tight it puts pressure on wrists, ect,ect. If its of high concern and lasts, then maybe see a doc. However, 144 is considered high, but not really to high. Also there is a bottom number, example 137/95. Again age also determines alot, If your b/f is like 60, then I would just go to a doc.

Main factors that cause high cholesterol.Besides diet, other causes of high cholesterol levels in life, sex and human heritage.

it could be from eating unhealthy. eating a lot of butter, mayonnaise, candy..things bad for you haha can give you high blood pressure. also it could be passed through your family. :)

Genetics, diet stress . Long term high blood pressure can bring on strokes, heart attacks, kidney disease. all kinds of nasty things.
