How to get rid of my high blood pressure? (13?)?

So the nurse took my blood pressure at school like 4 times. It was first 140/something and then 160/something is that bad? what can I do to get rid of high blood pressure and whats the normal number? Im 5"1 and weight about 100 pounds and am skinny as hell. And I HATE SALT!!! its disgusting. whats the problem??

At your age, secondary causes for hypertension would need to be investigated such as hormone and/or kidney problems, which can cause high blood pressure. Single BP readings are never diagnostic so your Doctor may want to do a 24 hour BP trace. The BP monitor that the Nurse used may have been faulty too if it wasn't a manual one.

Normal BP is <120/80.

There are a lot of reasons for elevated blood pressure. Stress, increased salt intake (even if you dont put salt in your food - realize that almost all prepackaged food, cheeses, etc have a very high salt content and you might not even realize it. Ever read the label on a box of mac and cheese? The salt is ridiculous.) While being overweight can cause high BP, even if youre skinny you can have high BP from lack of exercise. Try jogging a few times a week, its good for you and can help lower your BP. Normal BP is about 120/80, mild high BP is about 140/90, moderate high bp is 160/100 and above that requires some kind of treatment.

To lower blood pressure: dont smoke, eat less salt, exercise, eat less protein, dont consume caffeine, get a good nights rest but dont oversleep.

Normal blood pressure at the age of 13 years is 118/60 mmHg.
The commonest cause of persistent hypertension in aduls is essential hypertension. (No obvious cause is found). However the chance of having a secondary cause for hypertension is quite high in children and one must rule them out before stamping a diagnosis of essential hypertension.
The usual causes of hypertension can be found in and around the kidneys.
Consult a Nephrologist.

Take a look... These statistics amply demonstrated that, in hypertension, as with any other disease, violations are always very individual. What do people with the same diagnosis, the causes of the disease may be quite different. It follows that there is no pattern in the treatment of hypertension may not be easy. Causes of high blood pressure may be as follows:

I think you just need to relax. At your height and weight that is almost certainly not your blood pressure all the time. It was probably elevated due to stress of some kind.

If you're truly worried, have your parents bring you for your annual physical early this year [as in some time soon] and ask your doctor about it.

God bless.
