I have high blood pressure and have been given medication and told to take it everyday.?

Coz I only use it everytime my blood pressure will go up which is after 10 days of my last take. I'm afraid that if i will continue using it, even though my bp is low, it would become lower. Is it harmful or not?

If the doctor PROPERLY diagnosed you with high blood pressure, he needed at minimum 2 elevated readings but most likely about 6 elevated readings. If he did this and confirmed your high blood pressure, then your blood pressure is likely always or almost always elevated. After a proper diagnosis of high blood pressure, if you are put on medication it must be taken every day. Period. You don't "just take it when you need it" because you actually always need it. No one can truly "feel" or predict when their blood pressure will rise.

Once it gets to the desired level, as long as your dose is maintained it will not continue to go lower. PLEASE speak to your doctor and pharmacist so they can explin to you further why you need to take your medication every day and address any of your concerns.

Hi Smarties

I hope it was somebody medically qualified that diagnosed that you have high blood pressure and if so then you will need to take your medication everyday as Michelle C explains.

I had high blood pressure and told that I should make some lifestyle changes to bring it down or I would have to go on medication. My Doctor checked my BP once a week over 3 months to give me time to try and bring it down. By making some lifestyle changes my blood pressure came down to normal and I have avoided medication.

There are many things you can do to bring your BP down naturally. So I would go to your Doctor and discuss your options and see if you can do the same.

I hope this helps and good luck.

You should take a second opinion about the medication.

I am not sure of your age and how 'high' ur bp is usually, there are some home remedies which help keep it regulated and in the long term (after few months) the patient is able to give up the daily BP medication completely

- soak some pistaccios in clear water overnight, have them empty stomach in the morning
- you may follow the above with raisins also.
- cut on extra salt intake
- have lots of water, fruit n vegetable juices
- try relaxation and meditaion techiniques and yoga

Hope this helps
