Should i start taking medicines for high blood pressure or try yoga to reduce it? i am 22 years old?

hi everybody i have been shifting around to a couple of new cities for my job and last two times i checked i had high bp first time around 130/90 and second time 140/100.. should i start taking BP medicines?

I think you are too young to have to take medication for it. Watch the sodium in your diet. Also, regular exercise. If your pressure doesn't regulate after making diet/lifestyle changes, see a doctor to get their advice. Sometimes high blood pressure can be a symptom of something else.

All of the questions and responses for this question have been great. You need to keep a B/P log. Take your blood pressure at different times of the day and record it. You need to show it to your doctor. Are you African American? If you are, you may indeed have high blood pressure by genetics. The top number 140 tells how much pressure it takes for the left ventricle to push the blood out of it and into the aorta down to your feet and back up to the inferior vena cava. It does the majority of the work in the heart. The bottom number is the ventricle at rest. Not treating high B/P appropriately can cause other problems including increasing the size of the left ventricle and other body systems.

YOu could just be temporarily stressed out and you may not have taken the readings after sitting quietly for a few minutes...whatever , it doesnt really matter...your Doctor is the only person who will diagnose high BP and prescribe medication for you if it is deemed neccessary. Start to help yourself by keeping a healthy lifestyle and taking up something relaxing to counteract the stress of the new environment and see how that helps...

That is some high numbers for your age.Are you getting enough rest? Taking in ephedrine, too much caffeine, ginseng, too much Red Bull?Next, check out your sodium intake. We all know about chips and fries;but dig deeper(sodium content high in prepackaged food).Do you have an above average arm circumference? Then a larger bp cuff is needed.Yoga is a good idea. How about walk times when all of your thoughts are chilled and happy.Have your bp taken on your dominant arm after you have sat for a few minutes. No one should be asking you questions, nor should you be talking during the reading.

I think you can take medicines for high blood pressure.High blood pressure is defined in an adult as a blood pressure greater than or equal to 140 mm Hg systolic pressure or greater than or equal to 90 mm Hg diastolic pressure.
