Why do I have high blood pressure? |
I am only 24 years old and have been diagnosed with severe high blood pressure. I don't smoke and have stopped drinking. I am slightly overweight but this has been due to an underactive thyroid gland. I have been put on medication which has brought my blood pressure doen but is still high at 150/95. Any thoughts on what else I can do? Help! Its most likely genetic. sometimes you do everything right and your still stuck with it. Check with your folks and grandparents betcha its been passed through them. Keep exercising, less salt, try not to stress out!! even though you are only slighlty overweight, this is not necessarily indicative of the condition inside your body. Healthy eating and excercise is the only way forward.Do it. Make sure that you have your blood pressure checked all the time until they can get it regulated a little bit better. You may have some underlying medical condition that could be causing the high blood pressure, or it could be hereditary. Make sure that you follow your Dr's advice and watch your salt intake and try and not get stressed out about stuff. If you tend to be a little high energy or high stress, try taking a yoga class or do bio-feedback. It really works. My ex was diagnosed, and with proper diet, a stress reduction class and watching his weight, he was off the meds in 3 months. Hope this helps! Good luck to you. High BP can be hereditary. You may also be consuming too much sodium (salt) in your diet. The doctor may need to adjust the dosage of your medication if it is not working, or change the medication altogether. Have you checked whether the medication for your thyroid is affecting your blood pressure? Sometimes it can. Also, try to avoid getting stressed out (easier said than done) make time to relax and unwind. Also try to eat more bananas!! My job and general knowledge. The bananas I had heard about so checked and found: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/264552... Have you talked to your Dr. about why you have high BP. Sometimes its genetics or dietary or abonoraliies in your circlatory system.. Have you had your lipids tested ( cholestrol, triglycerides) tested. Is there a strong famil history. What is your race. Black people have a higher risk of high BP but no one really knows why. Are you on any other meds that might cause you to have abnormal lipids or high BP. You can cut out salt in your diet, caffiene, fatty foods. This will help and the occasional trip o McDonalds won't hurt but if your diet is alot of fast food that has a very high fat and salt content. Good luck with your quest for health. A |
