My male friend has high blood pressure. wanted to know what kind of foods-drink he should avoid besides salt Definitely stay away from fried foods --- ALL fried foods. avoid eating foods that are high in fat. meat should be grilled & dont eat the skin. tell your friend to visit his doctor too. drink water, stay away from soda. No fast food, or greasy food. Exercising helps too. Things as simple as an 1/2hr walk can change his BP. High blood pressure is a serious thing, it's either he makes a change in his life, or he'll regret it. Good luck!!! It's not just salt he needs to avoid, it's sodium. Look at the labels of processed foods, and you will find that most of them have a high sodium content. Your friend needs to read the labels to make sure he is buying sodium reduced foods or sodium-free foods, not just salt. A low sodium diet contains about 2 grams of sodium, and that adds up quickly. Tomato soups and juices, sauces and the like are big culprits, as are hard cheeses, like cheddar. Doughs can also be high in sodium. So get savvy about reading labels for sodium and not salt content. Caffine, prepared foods that are high in sodium, change to a salt substitute or use garlic powder and onion powder for flavoring, no potato chips, stay away from fast foods basically all the things that are convient are high in sodium including canned soups and frozen dinners. Butter and Eggs. Coffee and Beer. Any processed meats (lunch meats; sausage; etc). The more fresh fruits & beggies he eats, the better his blood pressure will be. |
