Is it really dangerous having high blood pressure?

doctors tells us that hypertension is bad, and they have medication treatments, but they dont tell the side effects or alternative ways of treating hypertnesion

Yes, high blood pressure can cause many things from heart attack to stroke to erectile dysfunction, and many other things in between.

Watch your salt intake, there are many foods out there that are very high salt. Exercise will help strengthen your heart and lower your blood pressure, it also helps alleviate stress. Stress affects your BP readings, so try and eliminate stressors in your life or reducing the amount. The are many excellent websites for additional information I've always suggested : www.lifeclinic.com for anyone who suffers from hypertension Source(s): RN 14 yrs
Yes, hypertension is dangerous and can cause heart disease, strokes and other problems. So you are smart to keep it under control.

Some things that can help without medication (but don't stop your medication without talking to a doctor):
1. Lose weight. This can reduce your bp.
2. Exercise regularly, really, just walking for 45 mintes every day can help a lot.
3. Follow the DASH diet. It is an eating plan that has been proven to reduce blood pressue. Find the details here:

Hope this helps.
most people dont feel hypertension (maybe headaches if its bad enough) and its not something that kills you overnight, but in the long run it is bad to have uncontrolled hypertension. youre at an elevated risk for strokes, heart attacks, congestive heart failure, aneurysms, organ failure (kidneys in particular), and more. Side effects of treatment depend on which drug you use, but generally most hypertension drugs are pretty well tolerated with minimal side effects. diet and exercise is pretty much the only alternative treatment- decrease the amount of sodium in your diet and exercise regularly, lose weight if you are overweight. that isnt enough for most people though bc your blood pressure generally gets higher as you age there are no herbal or natural medicine treatments that are very effective (some people say fish oil but it has side effects as well and its not nearly as effective as a prescription drug such as an ACE inhibitor, which you could get for $10-20 a month)
