What to feed a female that had a stroke high blood pressure and diabetes II? |
What to feed a female that had a stroke high blood pressure and diabetes II? Use the American Heart Association diet. It's great. I've lowered my cholesterol and have lost 24 lbs in 6 weeks and feel great! It's geared toward people with heart problems, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. so it would be perfect for her! Hope this helps and take care. Source(s): http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.j... low crabs No salt, high protein, low carbs. Turkey is good, just don't salt it. Low fat dressings and a salad. Fruit salad for dessert. low sugar low salt lots of veggies and protein talk to her doctor and he can give you a more detailed list of foods appropriate for her. limit salt in take, limit all sugars.....eat lots of fruits and fresh veggies.stay away from red meat and anything made with white flour....monitor and check blood levels and blood pressure often Was the stroke caused by high blood pressure? Is she on blood pressure medicine? The first thing that is usually done is to keep salt below 2000 mg (approx 2 tsp) a day. You can get salt alternatives but depending on what kind of blood pressure medicine she may be on she may not be able to use it. For example if she is on spironolactone (a type of diuretic) she should not use salt substitutes. With the diabetes the best resource is to go to www.diabetes.org. They have recipes and suggestions that are really good. Of course the most important thing is to keep sugar to a minimum. A lot of people don't realize that also includes white breads, pastas, some fruits etc. Good luck! |
