Going on a bus trip through the frazer canyon.Does high altitudes affect high blood pressure? |
I am on blood pressure meds but the last two weeks I have been having a spike in bloodpressure almost daily. For some strange reason it usualy happens in the late afternoon when I am resting.I had it checked out at the E.R. and everything was ok.Blood test,EEG but pressure was 205 over 122.I was given an ativan and that seemed to work. to get it down. Will traveling up and down through the rockies affect my blood pressure especially when your ears are popping? It will affect you somewhat, but just check with your doctor first. Ear popping has nothing to do with blood pressure, but make sure you chew gum, suck on hard candies etc, to keep you swallowing, which will help you keep your ears "open" If your ears start to pound, it's usually a sign of rising bp, so just keep an eye on things. "This should be nothing to worry about, as long as your blood pressure doesn't rise too much. Blood pressure normally rises slightly with increases in altitude (in people with hypertension as well as healthy people), especially with exertion. For instance, a reading of 105/65 at sea level may rise to 115/75 at 10,000 feet, dropping somewhat when the body acclimates to the altitude, but will return to normal back at sea level. Some people have bigger increases at high altitudes. If you have a chronic disease such as hypertension and are going above 6,000 feet, get medical advice. Your doctor will probably advise you to check your blood pressure at the higher altitude; if you are taking blood pressure medication, you may need a higher dose. To help acclimate to higher altitudes, try to spend at least two days at an intermediate elevation. http://health.ivillage.com/heart/hbp/0,,... I hope this helps.... Stress, anger and excitement can cause hypertension for a short time, if it is not there in your journey, you can try. More details at http://ailments.in/hypertension.html... |
