My mom has diabetes. she is 50 yrs old. she has high blood pressure and is overweight. what type of diabetes s It is Type II, however it is not curable as the other person said. Most people benefit from losing weight and watching carb intake but that is often not enough to keep things in control. There are oral medications that work for many and of course insulin. Sounds like she has Type 2 Diabetes, it's is usually curable, by losing weight, and watching sugar intake.. sounds like over wheat poloms. Although you can develop type 1 (don't produce insulin) at any age, it's usually a younger person's disease. Your mom probably has type 2 (inability to use insulin). Diabetes cannot be cured. This is a good reason for people to really make an effort to maintain weight within normal levels. Be supportive of your mom. She must be a little scared. Help her plan menus and encourage her to take her medications. http://www.kimkins.com Low Carb Diet Tell your mom to get the book, Diabetes Solutions Update and Revised by Dr. Richard Bernstein. This book saved my husband's life! What your mom must remember is that carbohyrates ARE SUGAR! People think they have to stop eating sugar and they continue to eat things like potatoes, bread and pasta - all of these items and more are carbohydrates - carbohydrates turn to glucose (blood sugar) in the body! Stay away from sugar free items - like cookies or ice cream. If you don't believe me check the package nutrition labels. The sugar free stuff has as much and sometimes more carbs in them then the non-sugar free foods. Get the book! It explains everything. This doctor is a Type I diabetic and he knows what he is talking about. More than likely Type 2. |
