Is it okay to take vitamin supplements when on medication for high blood pressure. My girl is on medication.? |
for high b/p and is vegan, she wont eat a healthy diet, she says apart from a meal I cooked for her , ( I managed to get her to eat meat for the one meal) she will only eat bread and chips, and that she doesn't need to take folic acid for her red blood cells and vitamin b complex, her boss told her to take vitamins to make up for her poor diet. She works in a very big health food shop by the way. Its since she started there that she went on this ridiculous diet. I use supplements and have high bp but do so in moderation. I also eat a well balanced diet though. It does not mean that you can use them as a replacement for a well balanced diet. She's going to be very ill very soon. For a supplement, she should probably avoid ones that have high doses of niacin. It is best to check with her doctor as to which vitamin supplements would be best for her. Perhaps getting her to see a doctor so that he can explain the gravity of the situation will be better? She may be more willing to listen to a person with "authority" on the subject. http://www.healthandwellnesscentral.com/... I would recommend that she ask her doctor, if she has one. High Blood Pressure won't be the only health problem she will have with a diet like that. Yes she can take a multivit supplement with HBP medicine - suggest she be educated about the importance of eating a healthy diet and get to know what will happen to the body if she doesn't get the appropriate nutrients. Rickets, Spots, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Liver Stress to name just a few. I am afraid that she is heading for trouble. You cannot possibly provide all the things she is missing, her diet is so poor. It sounds like her underlying problem is psychological, I would try and pursued her to see her GP who may wish to refer her for therapy. |
