Are isometrics really good exercises for you? I heard they could cause high blood pressure.?

Isometrics are a great way of toning and gaining strength(Bruce Lee is an excellent example).I did isometrics for YEARS in my martial arts training and saw huge results(I also lift weights).
The rise in blood pressure is only temporary and only impact your diastolic pressure not your systolic.Wearing a weight lifting belt while lifting does exactly the same thing.
And science has already ruled out the necessity to do all exercises using the full range of motion.Hypertrophy takes place after both types.
Isometrics are an excellent addition to full range work because they are fully contracted exercises(positions of flexion are mid range, fully stretched and fully contracted). Source(s): I've been lifting weights for 22 years and studied martial arts for 7.My BP is always around 125/73
I believe they are good as an adjunct exercise, but not as a prime movement. Muscles are made to contract through a full range of motion, not just in one set position.
