My blood pressure is high when I take it but if I elevate my arm, my blood pressure is signifigantly lower.? |
What does this mean? Do I actually have high blood pressure (140/96)if I can just elevate my arm and easily and quickly get a pressure in normal range (124/82)? Hey why don't you check out this website - I found it very useful - http://ailments.in/hypertension.html... correct blood pressure is in the heart level. If lower, the blood pressure will be recorded high, if higer , Blood Presser lower. The correct reading would be at the level ofthe heart If your taking your blood pressure daily and keeping a record for the Doctor or yourself you need to take it at the same time of day and in the same position. A resting pressure is the most accurate. Many things can cause the B/P to fluctuate, time of day, activities, caffeine drinks etc ,and of course "stress". Where & how you place the cuff, even what kind of device your using. Always keep the arm at complete rest with no flexing, keeping it at level of your middle chest area . Take care. SW RNP. I am glad that you are experimenting with it because there a lot of variables re. blood pressure. this why it has yo be done in a standard fashion so that the figures can be interpreted. These standard conditions are : 1. You must be lying flat or a small pillow under the head. 2.You must be relaxed physically and psychologically. 3.It must be taken in the right arm with the cuffed arm at the same Horizontal level as the heart. 4. The proceedure may be repeated in the left arm if needs be. 5. Early morning reading is most preferred rather after having been held up in a traffic! It is only after these conditions are fulfilled that a figure is diagnostic. I am an MD. your blood pressure is high, you should take your blood pressure when your arm is at the level of your heart, because when you elevate it volume of blood in your arteries decrease you you take normal but false reading |
