Is my blood pressure too high? |
I am 19 years old. I am about 90 pounds, and I am 4'11 I had my blood pressure taken at my college and they said it was 180/90 is that high.. they said it was really high.. im kinda worried.. it is?? Yes, that's pretty high, especially for a young person. Normal is 120/80, so get in and get yourself checked. That is really high for someone you height and weight. Usually petite people err on the side of hypotension, not hypertension. Go see a doctor, because that kind of high bp isn't good for your heart, and there could be an underlying condition. Yeah. Let your doc or local fire department do it again. Most fire departments, if you come in person, do it free. It is. But one reading is meaningless. If you were nervous, had eaten something salty that day, or had been walking around campus all day, those can all elevate your blood pressure. The only way to know a true BP is to take it at least once a day over several days and take an average. See your doctor about checking out a portable machine to do that if you're concerned. The "normal" number is 120/80. Yes, that is extremely high, especially for someone as young as you. Normal blood pressure ranges between 100/60 to 140/80 which is border line. You need to go to your doctor ASAP!!!! Something could be happening inside your body that is causing your blood pressure to be this high. If you don't treat your blood pressure as soon as possible you are putting yourself at an extremely high risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke. Go seek immediate medical attention. Your blood pressure should not be this high at all. Your doctor will need to monitor your pressure closely to determine what is happening. It's pretty high for how you described yourself. You might want to have a talk to your doctor about this next time you have an appointment or you can schedule an appointment for that sole purpose. On second thought, trained medical professionals with the proper tools are the only ones who can properly take and analyze your blood pressure. Was your BP taken at one of those automatic readers where you simply push a button? The average blood pressure is 120/80, but hey...everybody's different! med student consult your doc if you have any other questions |
