My blood pressure was high at my dr.'s appointment the other day...? |
I had taken a One a Day All Day Energy pill that morning, along with a Super B complex, folic acid, and zinc pill. At the Dr.'s, they took my blood pressure and it was 148/90. They were concerned about it. I went home and checked the bottle for the One a Day All Day Energy supplement and it said that it contained as much caffine as a cup of coffee. I never have caffine and that pill did make me pretty jittery. Do you think it was the pill that caused me to have the high bp reading? the caffeine could have had a little to do with it, do you have a family history of hypertension (high blood pressure)? how old are you? if you eat allot of salty things and are overweight this could have something to do with it. there is also what is called "white coat syndrome". there have been numerous studies done where patients who have elevated blood pressure at the Dr's office will have normal blood pressure out of that environment.I would recommend going to walmart and using their cuff (by the pharmacy) 3-4 times a week for about a month. then look at all the readings you get(better yet, take them with you to your next appointment). if a majority of the readings are high, talk to your Dr. It definately could have been the pill. Do you know what your blood pressure is normally? Also, did you feel at all stressed, nervous or otherwise anxious at the time? That can also make blood pressure increase significantly. If really concerned the only way to know would be to stop taking those pills and return to the doctor for another BP assessment. All the best I would get it checked soon. What i recommend doing is purchasing a blood pressure cuff. Check your blood pressure at the same time of day so you can see any fluctuations in the readings. Medical First Responder It's possible. Caffeine does contribute to an increase in BP. You may also have what's called the "white coat syndrome." Basically, it's a rise in your vital signs while visiting your doctor or going to the hospital all related to a mild form of stress. Next time, take your BP before going to your doctor and compare it to what it is at your doctor's office. A majority of the time it will be slightly higher. |
