Why is my blood pressure so high? |
Went to the doc for a serious sinus infection. Im a 40yr old male no high blood pressure before now. I have only been taking afrin 12 hour nose spray for 4 days so the doc says it probably was not the nose spray. It was 180/110. she wants me to have it checked three times this week and if still high start medication. She is not a doctor she is like a LMT or something and can write perscriptions. Could she be wrong about the nose spray? She asked if I had any swelling in ankles or fingers. What could cause swelling? could hight blood pressure cause it or something more serious and the high BP is just a secondary result. What can I do this week to lower my BP? She took blood to test and see if I could tolerate high BP medication if necessary. As I said Its not usually this high. I have it checked regularly. Different illness and medications can raise blood pressure. Over the counter nasal sprays are one of those. I am not sure exactly what causes it, you could ask a pharmacist. For those with high blood pressure, swelling in the extremeties is a real problem. This is due to the increase fluid in those areas. Did she give you an antibiotic for the sinus infection? I believe, once the infection is gone, your blood pressure will be fine. However, you should see a doctor about it. Also, purchase a blood pressure monitor - the digital ones are nice and automatic. Also, as we age, our bodies develop different ailments. High blood pressure is pretty common. Take care. Source(s): RN see a doctor, again Sometimes BP can just spike suddenly. Keep getting it checked as instructed, but I'd talk with a Dr. before beginning meds. The BP meds can have serious side effects. Good Luck. I think you should see another doctor to verify this. My husband has high blood pressure and he's 25, eats healthy and exercises daily (military). I know there are many causes of high blood pressure but his is due to an inherited kidney disease. The only thing he's ever been to the doctor for is this and edema (swelling), I'm not sure if the two are related or not. Some people have "white coat syndrome" when they visit a doctor, causing their b/p to go up. Try going to one of those b/p machines where you do it yourself. Check it on several occasions before you go back to the doctor, and record the readings. Sometimes it's just heredity and age catching up with you though. I started on b/p medication when I was 43. |
