My blood pressure is sky high right now .I have a Dr.appt. later this week.How can I bring it down now? It can't wait until later this week. High blood pressure is considered a medical emergency, and you need to get a ride to the nearest emergency room now. High blood pressure can cause strokes and death. If you are already on medication, call your doctor's phone number and they may tell you to take another dose. I am a nurse, and I've seen people in their 30's and 40's in a coma from not taking their meds right. Take this seriously, and keep a check on it. Also, lay off the caffeine, if any. What is 'sky high'? If it's over 180/100, you should consider going to the ER. Chewing on a piece of raw garlic is very good for the lowering of blood pressure my dad has high blood pressure and what he has to do is just find time to relax. You cant worry about things very much and you need to make sure you are eating properly as well. Sometimes your diet can contribute to your blood pressure. If you wait until your appt., research the cause and effects of high BP and take it with you to discuss with your doc. Exercise, weight control, diet, proper meds (very important) are all contributors to lowering bp BUT everything depends on you, your genetic heritage and what your doc tells you. If you get on a plan, stop at Walgreens (if your haven't already) and buy a self-inflating bp monitor (usually $50 - $60). I have one and they are great. When you feel "funny" (like your bp is "spiking", sit down, rest, and put on the cuff and see what's up! (It will also take your pulse which is important for obvious reasons). The good cuffs will record all your pressures so you can take it with you to the doc's and report on what your bp history has been. BUT for now, go on-line and read up (I can't believe you haven't already done this) and make a plan with you doc as to what you can do and monitor it very closely. IF YOU DON'T, you won't even know ---you'll just wake up dead some morning and not even realize it. |
