144 / 90 blood pressure is that high? |
im only 20, 5"11 and 200lbs i would say average healthy, no exercise whatsoever, this is the 2nd time i get a high bp reading & im starting to concern..any clues as to why this could be? thanks..(i cant see a doctor for at least a couple weeks when i become insurance eligible) One thing you can do for yourself right now, is to cut out most of your salt intake. Any doctor is going to tell you to do the same thing, so why not start early? Being 20, I doubt you do much cooking for yourself. But try not adding any extra salt to anything you eat. And when you get a chance, request that your food be prepared without salt. I can guarantee that your food is going to taste very bland for awhile, until you get used to it. But once you have, your food is going to taste better than you have ever had it. It is well worth training your taste buds to do without salt. If you have risk factors like diabetes, it is lower like <135/85. It's pretty high considering you should be aiming for a 120/80 reading. Hypertension (high blood pressure also called HTN) can be caused by LOTS of things. Most of the time it indicates a digestive, endocrine, or cardiovascular problem if it is an actual disease or disorder of the body (not simply resulting from bad diet or lack of exercise). Try starting up exercises and eating healthier. Good luck and get that BP down. I've personally seen worse so you're alright. Take it easy now. med student normal is considered 120/80. However, its really up to your dr what normal is for you. To me it sounds borderline high. or high/normal. Whatever you want to say. I would definaltely check with a dr as soon as possible. Also if this pressure has been checked in a store, like wal-mart. Its probably wrong, so therefor no need to worry. but please have it checked out. medical assistant |
