My blood pressure is still pretty high at 150/90 even though I am taking 160mg of diovan with 12.5 of HCTZ?

Taking 160 mg of Diovan and 12.5 of HCTZ
Don't smoke, don't drink, don't get enough exercise.

HCTZ is a diuretic (rids your body of excess fluid) Diovan also does the same thing but helps with bp. You may need to be reevaluated by your Dr. to put you on an antihypertension drug if your bp continues to be this high. It may take several trials to get the right medication for you, as with most people. Keep pressing him/her on this issue. Source(s): RN
Ask your doctor about water pills.
You need to go back to your doctor so they can either switch your meds or add another one. That is still high.
Exercise and good healthy eating makes all the difference. In fact, if you do all that, you will be able to get off the medication. Do you eat bananas? I read that those help to lower blood pressure, it's the potassium in them I think.
I'm guessing you should exercise? Watch what you eat, drink plenty of water. Ask your doctor what you should be doing... I'm sure he has already told you. Medicine isn't fixing the problem it's just eliminating some of the side effects!

I don't mean to sound harsh but you're talking about your life here!!!!!
You have answered your own question, you don't get enough exercise.Walking is a good one so is swimming. With enough exercise you can lower your blood pressure and may even be able to stop taking medication altogether.
