What does it mean when a paraplegic has a high systolic low diastolic blood pressure (139/37)? |
I have never seen this happen before. Usually either both are high or low or normal together, not spaced that far apart. Is this dangerous? Should I take him to the ER? The bottom number is the pressure in the heart when it is at rest. A low number like that is not bad and as long as the person feels ok (not dizzy ; no nausea) then stop worrying. You did not say how old this person is but the top number (systolic - pressure when the heart is fully contracted) is not too bad either. I was just in the ER yesterday for complications from another procedure. My BP was 103/36. They said not to worry because the top number was okay. Sorry I don't have a good answer for you. I added this to my watch list because I am curious to see what others say. You may want to call a doctor (or an ask-a-nurse hotline) before taking a trip to the ER and spending a whole bunch of money. Good luck. I hope everything is okay. |
