Is having high systolic, but normal diastolic blood pressure okay?

I took a BP test at the pharmacy today and the reading came out 156/81. I was just wondering if this is an okay reading for a 19 year old male.

I have what is called Systolic Hypertension.....its usually means where there is a 100 point spread between the 2 numbers...say 180/80....or 181/81....so yours was not at that point. I take one 25 mg pill for that and they finally got it down to the 140s and was glad to get it there after trying 9 other pills.. Your 81 is slightly elevated...stop the potato chips, salty foods anything that cause retention of fluids (salty foods)....the 156 is also on the high side...drop by your docs office sometimes and just ask the nurse to check it ..do that off and on instead of using a pharmacy machine....We check bp without charge all time for people btw the American Heart Association has lowered the norm now to at least 120/70 Source(s): experience....and Medical Office Mgr
those machines at public plases are not the most accurate...who knows how often they are calibrated and such,i personally do not like the electronic machines,i prefer to have my bp checked the old fashioned way and mine is always lower using the stethoscope method..best way to check is go to the docs and have them check it a few times.. for a person with no medical issues that bp is on the high side..for a while the guide lines were a diastolic of under 80 was ok but now thats been lowered...
The machines are not accurate, but I'll assume for sake of question that you've gone to the doctor and that is your average bp. You would be diagose with Hypertension, high blood pressure. It just takes one of pressures to be high for you to be diagnosed with high blood pressure. Anything above 140/90 is bad for non-diabetics, and for diabetics, anything above 130/80 is bad.

you should get your B.P. measurement 3 to 4 time . every after going to Doctor you rest & relax for at least 10 minutes. Acroding to WHO even if Only systoic B.P. remains high first you should give chance to Non drug therapy Like aeorbic exercise 4 to 5 days aweek, Low fat veg. diet, some foam of relaxatation like Shavasan, Meditaion etc. for 3 to 4 month. Of course everything under supervision of a a good sympathatic Empathatic Family Doctor. all the best !!
