When having a heart attack, would your blood pressure drop or go high? |
When having a heart attack, would your blood pressure drop or go high? At first your BP would be high. When your heart is not meeting its oxygen demand, it starts beating irregularly. Due to this your blood doesn't move efficiently and your brain does not receive adequate oxygen either. At this point your brain freaks out telling you to be anxious, increase your heart rate, respirations and your blood pressure to compensate for the blood not moving adequately. After a while your body can no longer compensate and everything drops, your BP, pulse, respirations and mental status. So at first high and later low... Thats the answer Source(s): I'm a California EMT I would think it would go high. Typically BP increases with a cardiac event. Mostly due in part of anxiety and panic over possible death. It can go down in certain medical circumstances . They answer is ......BOTH Usually it stops I would think? Either. But if the heart attack is a bad one- the pressure usually drops due to the heart's inability to pump blood efficiently. If the heart cannot pump, it cannot "perfuse" the organs and tissues as well. This leads to the low blood pressure. If the blood pressure is elevated, it is usually the pain and anxiety of having a heart attack that causes the high blood pressure, or just having hypertension in the first place. both.. blockage of the coronary artery causes a heart attack. |
