Is it normal for a 24 year old to have 90 beats a minute. (resting heart rate that is) And 170 beats a minute after exercising. My instructor keeps telling me to slow it down. She doesn't like how high my heart rate gets. So during arobics I can't raise my arms over my head too much, or jump around too much. Could I really have a problem. I don't want to go to a doctor if there's nothing to be alarmed about.
For your age, height and weight, your heart rate (pulse) is fine. It should be between 60-100 beats per minute (bpm). It is getting a little too high when exercising. Don't let it get higher than 140-150. Slow down. As you become more conditioned your heart rate will go down and you'll be able to work out harder if you like. Your blood pressure (b/p) should be around 120/70 or a little below. As you become more conditioned this to will lower also. Have one of the instructors or trainers at you gym check your pressure and heart rate before and after you exercise to give you an idea of how far you should go. Hope I helped. 90 is good, 170 is bad. Take your instructors advice.
