29 years old and have high blood pressure am so scared?

I am 29 year old female. I am mother to six children. My sixth baby was born only 14 weeks ago.
I have had some bad health probs recently and lots of stress from my family (not kids).
I have been suffering extreme dizziness to the point where I cant stand straight and I saw my doctor for it. I suffered type 2 diabetes throughtout my last pregnancy so I assumed the dizziness was my blood sugar being high but its not. Its high blood pressure.
My doctor says it was 140/96.
She gave me diazapam to take three times a day because she must think being stressed out could be raising it. I cant take them they are making me sleep all the time and I cant sleep when I have 6 kids to look after!
Whats wrong with me is this blood pressure thing serious or am I just panicking?
I am overweight and smoke which I need to change but I have never ever had a blood pressure issue.
Thanks for helping me.

Your hypertension is a serious issue that does need to be addressed, not ignored. If the medicine you have been given makes you tired, tell your doctor to try you on another one. There are many different drugs to try, so keep trying them until you find one that doesn't make you tired. You should have an echocardiogram done to make sure your heart is pumping adequately. If it isn't that could make you tired, and make your legs hurt (swelling). Stop using table salt, and start eating bananas. Bananas have alot of potassium, which will lower your blood pressure naturally. Lose weight, stop smoking, and take a walk every day. Your leg pain could be due to your weight putting pressure on the nerves in your lower back. Some bp meds also cause leg pain and/or swelling. Good Luck Source(s): I'm a cardiovascular technologist
I've been on medications for high blood pressure since I was 20. I am 29 now and am pretty well under control on Norvasc and hydrochlorothiazide. Being overweight and smoking are definately contributing factors, but so is heredity. Diazepam (valium) will help with the anxiety, but may mask the real reason you have hypertension. Not to mention it is highly addictive. Please discuss the issue of sleepiness with your doctor and ask if he can try another medication. There are MANY to choose from.
first thing you need to do is don't think about high blood pressure cus doing so will raise it. Being overweight, smoking and stress will play a big part in that. I am in the same boat as you. I am overweight and stressed. I just recently quit smoking and it has lowered but sometimes its still high. I would suggest getting it taken when you first wake up. that would be what your pressure is after rest. mines always normal then and gradually gets higher during the day. I know how you feel though your thinking about your heart and having a heart attack and youll start to get sweaty and can feel your heart pumping harder and even sometimes your left arm or chest will hurt. belive it or not my problem wasnt really all stress it was a deficiency of certain vitamins in my diet and back problems pinching certain nerves that gave me those symptoms.
Just tackle one issue at a time and relax. when your stressed think about how you feel when you first wake up after a good night sleep. right before bed take some flush free niacin about an hour before and youll sleep better which will lower your blood pressure.

Hang in there ;)
When I was 31 years old, (I'm now almost 34), I was told I had high blood pressure.
I was able to reduce my blood pressure to a healthy number just by exercising three times a week, cutting out some heavy salt intake, and most of all...DE-STRESSING!
I was never put on meds because those three things took care of it completely.
The worst thing to do is panic. Stress and anxiety can fester into physical impairments you would never even have thought of! Continue to do as your doctor says, try to exercise a bit a few times a week...even if it's just some brisk walking...(a break from the kids from time to time might help reduce stress also...believe me, I know...I have six kids too!)
I also smoke...and that's something to try to tackle as well.
Just think of your kids, your life and how much healthier you will be for them in the long run if you can maintain a healthy lifestyle, which in turn should help reduce your blood pressure.
Also, as I did...if needed, see a therapist from time to time to discuss underlying issues of stress, panic or anxiety.
Best of health to you!
About 1/3 Americans have high blood pressure, some don't know they have it, so don't worry it can be control and about smoking and your weight you must take care on your own.
