High blood pressure medicine? |
my mother just started taking a high blood pressure medicine should she take it in the morning or is it ok for her to take it at night so the side effects arent so bad. ty Most people take it in the morning if its once a day but if your mother is having problems with side effects I suggest you have her see her doctor. There shouldn't be any side effects to speak of other than maybe some tiredness at first but that should improve in a few weeks. There are many kinds of b/p meds and if she is having side effects that are problematic she should probably see about switching. Source(s): nurse 25 years Some meds are best taken before bed time to help elimanate side effects, have her call the doctor or pharmacy they will be able to tell you. that is the first question that should have been asked of the MD when he put her on the med. Many times meds should be taken in the day and others are best at night. If sleepiness is involved, take it at bedtime, if it gives you too many side effects, have MD change med.All people are different. What works for me may not be good for you. The MD is the only one that can decide if it is working,by what you tell him. Do not be afraid to talk to the MD,even if he seems to be in a hurry. RN If the med is HCTZ or an ACE inhibitor you may want to tak it in the morning. These pills may make you pee alot. Would suck to go to bed right after taking these. Most BP medications have few side effects unless you have an ACE inhibitor(usually ends with PRIL such as lisinopril) or a diuretic such as hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide, or lasix. These can make you urinate a lot or with the ACE inhibitor you can develop a dry cough. If she gets a cough you should call your doctor and have the medication changed. If there are other side effects such as dizziness or headaches etc... You may need to have the medication adjusted as it may be too strong or not enough. It is not as important when you take the medication though as that it is taken at the same time every day so your body can develop a routine. |
