Why are women much more likely than men to believe in garbage like homeopathy, reiki, astrology & spritualism?

Is it because they are not encouraged/inclined to take science or maths classes at school?

Or are their brains not wired for logic and reason in the same way men's are?

Hi Claire B: I didn't say women don't do maths or science classes - use some logic or reason and you would have known that. It's a fact that they are LESS likely to do maths and science classes than men.

Neither sex has a monopoly on believing in completely asinine things. The guys I know are more likely to believe in Creation "Science", UFOs, or that the Pyramids were built by ancient astronauts. That's really no less stupid.

optimism

there's a Gullible gene that mostly occurs in women, and people from swindon

What makes you think woman don't do maths and science?????

You're a Taurus, aren't you? Or perhaps a Leo with Taurus rising...I'll have to check the charts.

You got me thinking there, God knows!!!!

And men aren't....there are many male astrologers, spiritualist priests, there are plenty of self made homoeopathic doctors that are also male... Your argument is wholly inaccurate...........

Women and men equally believe in homeopathy.
Difference is that women will talk about it men do not.

Women have more faith and want to believe, men tend to what hard facts.

There is no proof for the argument that women are less logical compared to men.Women may be more emotional and as result more depends on the choice of heart. The percentage of women studying maths and science together is almost equal to that of men.(slightly less I agree)
As far homeopathy and reiki they are proven alternative medical systems and millions all over the world are benefitted. The astrology columns in internet /news papers are popular among men and women. The sun signs are popular among all students. As regards spiritualism,it may not be popular among the young. If you consider persons above age of 35/40 you will be surprised that men and women are equally inclined to some sort of spiritualism.Your conclusions are not based on correct figures and data.

Hey! You haven't heard the saying "some body's garbage is someones treasure". I have seen some men that believe in these stuffs, does that mean their brain is like women not wired for logic and reasoning ??? Or these are fake men camouflage as a feminist ?? Ha ,ha ha ,ha, your question is funny.....

And you've done the research that tells you it's all garbage, have you?

Or have you just decided to hit the internet with your own version of the truth?

I note there's no evidence for God either, but I note you don't say that that's garbage.
And please, should you turn out to be a highly qualified GP, don't attempt to pass that as someone who knows what they're talking about.
A hell of a lot of GP's are as dismissive of homeopathy as you are, looking as they are from a similarly uninformed position.

For your information, there are much more women doing maths and science than men and get better scores in my school
Furthermore, there are more men that i know are superstition than women. And no. I'm not superstition. HA HA. surprise? You should be.
And yeh, there's nothing wrong to be superstition. They are more optimistic and they will gain more confidence than us.

It's a great question to change your thoughts that are immature :)
You should go out more and interact with more PEOPLE especially women who you think are more not logic than men

Hello,

(ANS) I think womens readiness, or willingness to believe in alternative treatments & alternative therapies such as healing & spiritual ideas come more from their social conditioning. That women are permitted or allowed to be more emotional than men relatively speaking, meaning that perhaps woman are more open minded to different ideas around healing, health & spirituality thats on the positive side of the argument. The down side of the same argument is that women can be just as naive as men when such treatments or ideas are rather less believable.

**I don't think naivety has very much to do with what sex you are (i.e. whether your male or female).

**I have tried Homeopathy myself many years ago in the early 1980's and I have to say, it was of no help to me. As time has gone by since those treatments I too have questioned the concepts behind Homeopathy and I too am more skeptical than ever before about its claims.

However, I also know that conventional medical treatments are far from perfect either & can also be over hyped. Exaggerated claims can be made for NHS medicine too. Conventional drugs & treatments frequently do have side effects, some of which are very serious or just plain unpleasant. Homeopathy rarely has nasty side effects as far as I can see.

**Hands off healing does help people I know as I have seen & experienced this. I don't know about Reiki nor any of the claims made for it.

**Astrology is a system of ideas that I find hard to have any serious belief in. So to me its just a silly load of hokum.

**Spiritualism is also something I think of in the same vein as Astrology. But I think ALL religion is utterly unbelievable non sense. That religion now causes more problems & conflicts around the world that it solves or heals.

Kind Regards Ivan

I think it's more down to the individual and what they want to believe in, there are a lot of men who practice all of the above.

BTW it's not all garbage

My g/f dragged my to a healing exhibition a couple of months ago and although some of it was OK most of it was just a bunch of nut jobs trying to make money.

LMAO I don't believe in any of that ****, it's for those high maintenance people who have too much money and they need to spend it somewhere. I wouldn't bother with any of that crap you know what is a great stress relief? Buying a six pack, switching on your ps2 and spending the afternoon blowing **** up!

Men and women are wired differently, yes. I would hardly call all those things you mentioned, garbage. On the contrary, I think men are more likely to do a lot of garbage - like raping, drugs, stealing, cheating, abusing women and children. What men need is to be more spiritual and perhaps open their minds a little bit...practice homeopathy, do yoga etc.

And of course, angry women spell badly, but you can still get their point if you are smart. It's not about the spellllllling.

How open-minded of you to call all of this "garbage."

Surely you remember from third grade that science is one of a number of methods of acquiring knowledge. Although you may believe one method more reliable than another, it does not render other methods "garbage."

Anyone who understands what science is, at its heart, understands this.

Some assert that our DNA predisposes women to more holistic thinking, men to more linear. If this is true, men are perhaps more likely to go for the "factual jugular," as they might think of it, whereas many women will take in a large set of data that some men might see as extraneous.

It's pure arrogance to suggest that men are scientific thinkers and therefore reasonable and true, while women are flighty nitwits.

I know a huge number of male morons and an equal number of truly well-informed women who could prove your assumption wrong.

I don't believe in any of that stuff. I'll read my horoscope for fun but that's about it.

As for astrology, as Sir Issac Newton said to Jeremy Bentham "I sir, have studied it, you have not."

I agree with Gnu Daddy. I still think men have a need to believe they are "more logical" than women. Ego reasons, I guess. By the way, was that creation museum founded by a woman? Nope.

Creationism, Islam, Judaism - all full of illogical sh*t. All founded by men.

No.

I think that some of it can be traced to a distrust of institutionalized medicine and religion that were created by men and for men.

Some of it, I am sure, is for pure entertainment.

For starters, if it is garbage, why has it survived through the ages?
Calling spiritualism garbage is just wrong.
I believe that women have more logic then men. They do not let their ego and masculine pride get in the way.
Women are also more sensitive and compassionate and these studies lean toward this compassion.
Women's brains are wired the same as men's, it is the ego that is different.

Awww, look at that, I got a thumbs down. Must have been from a man. Go figure. Just proves my point.

It's not just women these days who are into all this "garbage" as you put it!
If people believe in anything and it helps there lives to be that little bit better for it, then why not!
And yes i'm into astrology & spirtualism & tarot!
Derek Acorah, John Starkey and David Wells to name but a few men that I can think of.
