Did you know that homeopathy can only work if the following statements are true?Do you still believe it works?

1. diluting something makes it stronger

2. like cures like (i.e. caffeine causes insomnia, therefore taking caffeine cures insomnia)

and

3. WATER HAS A MEMORY

Chewycon: lots of people believe it. I suspect they haven't really thought about the non-science behind it, and just assumed because it's for sale in Boots, and the NHS wastes millions on it, it must be valid.

Some deluded people believe in it too, but there's not much we can do about them

Hello,

(ANS) I have in fact tried Homeopathy many years ago & as I have become a little older my opinion has changed a great deal since those treatments. Looking more closely and critically, perhaps with a more cynical or skeptical eye. I now longer believe that homeopathy works nor can it work, its based on a very simplistic and rather naive ideas which have no proven effects.

**Homeopathy only works for some people and the effects of the treatment I believe only work because of a placebo effect. In other words its ALL in the mind or works because of belief that it will work. Or in other words "As you believe so it shall be !!!

Ivan

who believes it anyway?
is there anyone of a rational mind who could believe that load of boll*cks

i know that it is the same sort of way some tham immunisations work, so this makes a bit of sense to me

xxx vici

i think it help some people

Well ,water does have memory, that's a fact.
Innoculations work by introduceing the virus to the body so the immune system can build up it's own defence to it.
Don't know about the first one, is that a condition of homeopathy?

Morton and chewy whatever, I don't know if it works or not, never really been interested in it, however a lot of intelligent thought went into it, so I would think twice about knocking it.
And if (as in the case of chewy...) you are going to make such blatant statements, I wonder what kind of qualifications you have to back up your statement?

The thing about some remedies such as homeopathy is that it just works, whether or not you can make sense of it. I was incredibly skeptical of it... but it's proven itself to me time and time again. I've used it to cure my cat of an eye infection when veterinary medicaine failed, and I've seen it work on screaming children. So science can prove it wrong all they like... but it does work. It's just one life's little mysteries

First of all, there is truth to homeopathy. As far as number one goes, I can tell you at the very least, bleach is much more effective against pathogens when diluted, specifically, one part bleach to 10 parts water. Injectable medication is often diluted with something (like sterile water or saline) before injection. IV's are almost always reconstituted with something, whether it be in the manufacturing process or in the pharmacy. Even pills are not pure medication. They contain buffers, among other things, because without them, you would be poisoned.
As far like curing like, someone already gave you the example of vaccines. Small amounts of poison have been cures for many centuries. For example, when bitten by something poisonous, what are you treated with? Anti-venin. And what is the anti-venin derived from? The snake's venom which poisoned you in the first place. As far as water having a memory, well, there are studies that both support and refute this claim.
Whether or not it is scientifically proven doesn't really matter. What matters is that the person experiencing the symptoms of the illness feels better. Who cares if it's a placebo effect? If it works, and doesn't cause any damage, then who cares why it works?
And if you're going to say "well it's dangerous because it makes people stop taking their real medication" then I am guessing that you have never taken medicine that severe side effects, some of them deadly. Taking a homeopathic remedy is no more risky than take a drug manufactured by a pharmaceutical company....
and if your response to this is "well, the drugs used for homeopathic cures don't go through any sort of approval or monitoring system, like the FDA" then take a look into the FDA's approval process....I think you'll be socked at how little pharmaeutical companies have to prove in order to get a drug approved...

Agree with you! Homeopathy is bunch of crap! People make loads of money by selling these sugar pills that have no beneficial effect. Not only are they NOT regulated well but they have NO PROOF of working.

I have problems with big pharma. companies too, but at least they have to conduct many trials and lots of study before selling you anything. Not sure why the homeopaths won't do some clinical trials? It would be possible for some things.

Several scientific papers have indentified favourable results of homeopahty over placebo. For example, Mathie (2003) for childhood diarrhoea, fibrositis, hayfever/allergic rhinitis and influenza. A total of 93 randomized clinical trials have been analysed.

You'd rather believe the medical industry and the pharmaceutical industry then?
One original study that caused many countries in the world to put flouride in water was touted on the fact that not one person working in the factory had a filling! That sold the theory across the world but in fact the reason the people in the factory making the chemicals needed did not have a filling was because the bones in their faces were damaged and they had no teeth.
We are lied to every day, science, drugs, empirical testing and politics. At least homeopaths believe in their therapy, have seen it work and are truthfully attempting to cure while so-called conventional medicine 'treats.' a cured body is worth no money so high BP, diabetes and many other disorders must be treated for life and there is no attempt to cure by the cynical drug companies.
I'm sad that so many people disbelieve that any therapy can work as, although I know it works (I am a homeopath), and would explain how if you were worth the effort, should it really matter if I say I've got a psychic cat that can make you feel better or even cure you of a disorder that is making you ill. Many times people see complimentary therapists because the medical profession has said there is no m ore they can do, often times with cancer they have been through the 'slash and burn' school of cancer therapy and are eventually sent home to die. It may not be possible to save these people but if their passing is just a little easier for them and their families then what I do is worthwhile.
Judge by results, many people see a complimentary therapist and feel better. This obviously worries you unduly as you are not being forced to take the treatment though without any proof we are happily poisoning our children with vaccinations before their little bodies have had much life. No, its not the vaccination though I'm not convinced of their efficacy, it's the mercury, wood preservative, colourants etc that concern me that are added to materials like egg and monkey brain on which the cells are grown. Maybe you should be concerned more by this?
