What would you rather have: A homeopathy BSc or some used toilet paper?

http://education.guardian.co.uk/choosead...

Well I can't see an investment bank taking on someone who wasted 3 years getting a homeopathy qualification (which you can buy on the internet anyway)

Get over yourself you d!ck

You have no reason to post any of these stupid questions. They just hurt and insult people

REPORT

I would rather have the clean homeopathy BSc diploma...... because I could use it as toilet paper in an emergency

These days there is'nt a great deal of difference, people studying for years then having to take jobs in a different sector...
Seems it was a bit pointless to me..

A proper homeopathy qualification takes at least four years to complete. To practice (in Australia) you need to be an approved member of certain governing bodies.

So yes, you may be able to get a dodgy qualification / certificate on the internet, but it will be completely worthless and (in Australia, at least) you won鈥檛 be able to legally practise.

I don鈥檛 believe that universities are damaging their reputations by offering science degrees in homeopathy, reflexology and other alternative medicines. Rather, they are moving with the more enlightened and better educated times.

Science is good in many aspects but you really don鈥檛 need to 鈥減rove鈥?everything in life. Homeopathy, reflexology and other alternative medicines, are real. Just because you can鈥檛 prove it, doesn鈥檛 mean it鈥檚 not real.

Of course David Colquhoun (professor of pharmacology, in the report) is going to class it as 鈥済obbledygook鈥? the poor bloke is probably worried and threatened by the rise in popularity of alternative medicine (he is probably being sponsored by one of the big pharmaceutical companies too)

In regards to your statement saying....鈥?.鈥滻 can't see an investment bank taking on someone who wasted 3 years getting a homeopathy qualification鈥? You may not be able to see it, but luckily many investment banks are more forward thinking.

Any sort of education should be viewed and promoted as a positive experience. Experience in a wide range of professions is excellent in this day and age of job insecurity, retrenchments, takeovers etc鈥?br>
I work in an extremely conservative field. My resume shows that I had done a number of alternative courses. During the interview this was classed as a positive attribute for my ability to 鈥渢hink outside the square鈥?(and other idiotic wanky business terms) I have never had a problem having this on my resume, normally gives the interviewer something to chit chat about.

You seem very anti-alternative - are you related to David Colquhoun by any chance?

--------------------------------------...

Addition: In reply to Morten W 鈥?

Well of course my other qualifications / experience got me the interview in the first place鈥︹€︹€︹€?br>
What I am saying is, my alternative qualifications were seen as positive attributes.

The interviewers did NOT view my alternative courses as they would view bungee jumping or travelling.

They were very respectful of this alternative education. Yes, believe it or not, it is classed as education and not a hobby.

The alternative subjects are listed with the rest of my qualifications on my resume, along with my schooling, college and university degrees.

Given I have got every job I have ever wanted, I can鈥檛 be doing too badly. And to be perfectly honest, if anyone ever made derogatory comments about this alternative education, why would I want to work for them in the first place, as they are bound to be complete tosspots to work for with such limited and narrow-minded views.

The only time I have had negative comments in an interview, were in relation to my past travelling.

.

I believe any kind of education can result in growth. It all depends on how the person uses that knowledge to make choices that ultimately makes the difference. Knowledge and choices tend to either make things better or worse depending on how they are used and often knowledge can be "bittersweet".

if you framed the used toilet paper it would get attention

personally I'd rather have the BSc in Homeopathy as although this appears to have no value to the questioner, the level and qualification shows that the holder has completed tasks and jumped through lots of hoops to earn that status.
Even if they didn't practice homeopathy the skill aquired in acheiving that status could be applied in many other fields as having a degree shows an aptitude to learn and ability to perform tasks unsupervised. Blue chip companies fall over themselves to recruit people with these skills.
The relevance of the subject mater is questionable but it could be argued that many subjects studied to degree level have no value.

Personally, I beleive, many subjects studied to degree level are a complete waste of time.
Medical statistics is one that really springs to mind....

I can't see how this has any value in a multifaceted health care system when the system of collecting data for the allopathic model is so flawed it would be funny if it wasn't sold as perfect....

Added:
In response to Altmed Therapies only being at the worst universities think again.
My Therapy is considered to be altmed. I completed my degree in 2006 in a university that was ranked in the top 50 in the UK in 2007 according to the guardian website.
2 other universities that also do the course rank in the top 100 .
