Do feminists believe in alternative medicine, life energy forces, Chi, chakras, homeopathy and all that BS?

for some reason it seems like they'd be just the type to have brainless ideas about health and science

so is that a "yes" then?

:-)

OK sweetcheeks, you want to insult feminists intelligence, but you have made a huge assumption about ALL feminists, which just makes YOU look like the brainless one!

I am a woman of science, and an athiest, and I believe that all the stuff that you describe is untenable, but I do not feel the need to insult the people who believe in it because unlike you I am not a rude shetbag.

Why yes, alternative medicine comes right under the bit about gaining equil rights in the huge universal feminist charter.

Feminists don't all think alike, so no, most don't believe in this stuff. And calling feminists brainless is not particularly original or clever, unless you feel you have some evidence to back this up? But, obviously, couldn't be bothered to post it...

Brainless? It actually requires great skill and knowledge of the human body and its workings. As much anatomy and physiology as "western" medicine.

This type of medicine has been around for thousands of years and will persist for thousands more. Just because it is not what the US and UK and much of North America and Europe view as "traditional" western medicine does not qualify it as "brainless".

Numerous studies have shown that premature infants respond to massage, they are released from the hospital sooner, they put on weight quicker, they recover from surgeries faster. The same is true for "regular" people as well. Elderly in nursing homes are routinely given massages as are diabetes patients. Western MD's are slowly but surely at least recognizing the healing effects of massage. Hopefully they will begin to except other forms of "Eastern", or alternative" mediciine as well.

I subscribe to Reiki Healing and massage on a regular basis, I also use acupuncture. I have used it for weight loss (combined with western medicine) in the form of a patch you stimulate on your ear which is an oral satiation zone. Aroma therapy also helped much more than any Western medicine for my 5 and then 7 year old daughter who had much anxiety and couldn't sleep during two deployments my husband had to the Middle East. The MD tried her on oral medications which didn't work. In the end taking her for weekly massages (which included reflexology) and nightly aromatherapy did the trick. My husband is getting ready for a third deployment and we will probably have to revisit this regimen. Osteopathy is also so much more effective than a chiropractic doctor, it is all about small muscle and bone manipulations, and low and behold it is done by a licensed physician! It is still not commonly heard of and often hard to find but well worth the effort when you find a good one (this is who practices my acupuncture as well (board certified not some brainless quack!) Eastern medicine has survived for thousands of years for a reason and these examples are just a few of them.

Alternative medicine = ironic label for those that make synthetic drugs some derived from what is still a secret to others, however their lack of education. Yes, it is brainless to hide information assuming all people have been dumbed down enough not to notice.

For constipation: Smooth Move by Traditional Medicinals for people who are not allergic to any of the natural ingredients.

All of those practices were originated by men, not women.

alternative medicine > well, that depends. alternative medicine is a huge field. there is extremely good evidence for the efficacy of some herbal medicines, and of course modern medicine frequently uses plant based drugs. there is also good evidence for acupuncture helping certain conditions e.g. nausea. so it would be silly to think these treatments don't work. aromatherapy massage can be pretty effective at relieving stress and osteopathy can help certain back conditions. personally i believe homeopathy is due to a placebo effect.

i wonder if you have actually studied the subject in detail or if you are just spouting out nonsense for effect?

What does this have to do with feminism?

I do not know about all that you say, but acupuncture does have a scientific principle. The nervous system transfer electricity and can be though of as an electrical network.

This was know to the Chinese for a VERY LONG time, and only recently have western medicine have began to notice it.

Western medicine is more concentrated on the chemical aspect of the body and know very little on the electrical aspect of it.

heh..you dont have to be a feminist to believe in the merits of alternative medicine.

im not a feminist..and for the longest time ive had a very big interest in those things.

especcially considering the fact that generally prescribed medications have so many side affects...some even worse than the condition that they are prescribed for.

and sometimes even death...

I'm not a feminist but you have to be very ignorant to just ignore and call it BS somethin you don't understand.

My motto is, everything in life has a scientific explanation. We just don't know what those are yet.

Some do, I'm sure, but I'm not one of them.

"Brainless ideas about health and science"? Really? You mean because many of us don't support abstinence-only sex ed, which has been proven ineffective time and time again?

Prince Charles is all for this BS as you put it- does that make him a brainless femminist?

I'm sure some do and some don't-

by the way- what do you understand by the word "femminist" ?you use the term as if it were akin to "murderer" or "rapist"

I am a feminist.

I do not believe in energy forces, Chi, chakras, or homeopathy.

I believe in acupuncture and massage (for some things, not for others).

Brainless?!
With a question like that I am not sure who sounds "brainless" now.
I follow an alternative medicine. And believe me, I am doing by far better than your pathetic life!
Go back and this time don't forget to take your Valium.

Why would "feminist" indicate that all people who wear that banner believe
the same about all those subjects.

It doesn't seem to me to be a logical assumption. Do all misogynists agree
on everything?

your saying people who seek equality for women MUST believe all that? Your really stereotyping here....
so basically no...

Sounds like you're on the wrong website- this is Yahoo Answers, not Yahoo "Soapbox" where prejudices are disguised as questions.

Haven't gotten laid lately, hm? You're in good company with the other imbecilic trolls. They don't get any either.

I am not a feminist.

I believe in life energy and ch'i.
