This answer is in response to your question posted on yahoo about homeopathic treatments for hypercholesterolemia.
As a physician, if I draw blood on a patient and find that their cholesterol is elevated, I give them a six month trial of lifestyle changes before I go to prescription medication.
I also suggest to them to take something called "Cholest-OFF" manufactured by NatureMade and you can get it over the counter at CVS, Safeway, etc. It has plant sterols in it which bind to the bad cholesterol (LDL) and wisk it out of your body. Additionally, I suggest garlic tablets, but watch out. Get the ones that are odor free or no one will want to be around you. Garlique is the best and there are some generic odorless garlic tablets you can pick up at CVS or another drug store. Also, exercise will increase your good portion of cholesterol (HDL). Eating a lot of oat products will also lower your cholesterol. Cheerios, oat bran, oat bran muffins, oat bread, etc. There is also benechol which is a type of butter spread you can use (it acts like the Cholest-OFF in that it has the same plant sterols contained in it).
If none of these get your cholesterol down after six months, then it is advisable to go on a cholesterol drug known as a "statin". The most famous is lipitor, but there is mevacor, pravachol, crestor and many others.
Always try the natural way first is my motto with my patients.
