Thanks for your answers!!

do most suffer from OCD as well?

why is this??

Hello

A responsible Hypnotherapist would not give therapy to anyone with a serious mental illness as it could make matters worse.

OCD and schizophrenia are two completely seperate issues. OCD is a type of anxiety disorder that occurs most often in people who do not have schizophrenia at all. Most schizophrenics do not have true OCD. Sometimes you'll have comorbid occurances of schizophrenia and OCD but they are not caused by each other or really even related to each other.
It would stand to reason that schizophrenics are harder to hypnotize because they often find it difficult to concentrate due to the fact that they are hearing a lot of static in their heads or are preoccupied with delusional ideas. You need to concentrate to be hypnotized, no concentration=no hypnosis.

Why are you so interested in schizophrenics?

Actually, the only people who can't be hypnotized are some developmentally disabled people and people who don't believe in hypnotism. (Hypnotism requires the person being hypnotized to "allow" it.) Obviously, some developmentally delayed people can't be hypnotized because they lack the capacity to understand simple instructions.

Schizophrenia has NOTHING to do with intelligence. Like other mental illnesses, it can strike ANYONE. What is particularly sad about schizophrenia is that it generally strikes in late adolescence or early adulthood. Schizophrenics could be hypnotized if they believed in it, just like anyone else.

Symptoms of schizophrenia include auditory hallucinations, delusional thinking, and disorganized speech and thinking. It is NOT split personality or multiple personality. Although the word 'schizophrenia" means "split mind" in Greek, it is a misleading term. The "funny" t-shirt that says, "I'm schizophrenic and so am I" is not only NOT funny, but incorrect. Multiple Personalities, aka "dissociative disorder" is a completely different problem, and is a personality disorder and not a mental illness.

OCD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, is a completely different disorder from Schizophrenia as well. It is actually an anxiety disorder most commonly characterized by obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or "rituals") which attempt to neutralize the obsessions. Some people can be obsessive about one thing without being OCD. (Like doing something "for luck" or wearing a lucky charm). People can also be compulsive about something, like being on time, without suffering from OCD. OCD is WAY overused as a casual diagnosis. In actuality, it is a very serious disorder that intrudes on the person's life.

Hope this helps.

I have no idea what the other two are talking about, but I did have a neighbor once who was both schizo and OCD and was entertaining to watch while drinking my coffee in the morning.

I don't know about schizophrenics and hypnosis, but schizophrenia has nothing whatsoever to do with OCD.

schizophrenimia is not a laughing matter as all of me knows.

Nope - same process, but you need to swing multiple watches.
