im having this operation done right after christmas and so scared of what to expect and how many days i hav to stay in hospital as i hate them and dont want to be away from the kids to long a i will miss them. can anyone tell me what to expect and how long i have to stay in for

Hello. Definitely not something to look forward to right after the holidays but on the bright side it's not the end of the world. I had a Total Abdominal with an Oopherectomy (in other words my insides are naked) done 5 months ago, I'm 25. As the person mentioned above depending on the type and the cause for depends on how long you'll be in the hospital. The absolute best source of information I found on the net for every possible question you can think of pre-op, during, and post op and for future life is the website, www.hystersisters.com. Please check it out, there is nothing that you can think of that's not on there and it is of course free to go to. Good luck and happy holidays.

Are you having a vaginal or abdominal procedure?
All of this depends on how sick you are to begin with - why are you having this procedure done?
Is it for fibroids? Cancer? Heavy periods?
How long has your doctor told you that you will need to stay in the hospital?
I had a vaginal procedure done on a Wednesday, stayed in the hospital for 2 days, spent the weekend with my mother and drove home 250 miles on the following Monday.
And it also depends on whether or not there are any complications with your surgery.
Talk to your doctor - she'll have the best answers for you.
Good luck.

If you have the incisional hysterectomy (traditional) you will likely be in the hospital the day of surgery, the following day, then leave on the 3rd day. However, it takes a few weeks of rest to fully recover once you return home.

If you have a vaginal hysterectomy or laproscopic procedure...you can sometimes return home late the day of surgery or the day after surgery.

Don't rush your recovery because it can cause you problems later. I wish you all the best
