Post hysterectomy (TAH) bleeding per vaginum starting on day 5th??

my mother has undergone total abdominal hysterectomy for multiple leiomyomas and now in the post operative period she is having severe bleed per vagina which started on day 5th (severity is 2 pads/day) its her 11th day and its still there i have not found any reference to this in any book so looking for a possible cause and a remedy.our doctor has done a USG and it was normal and even on pv examination nothing much was found so she says that it is possibly oozing from the vaginal stitches(she originally planed for a L.A.V.H but in mid due to severe adhesions to bladder and bowel it was abandoned and a TAH was done, the histo-path reports of the specimen are also normal;)
please help fast???

i am convinced that there is no infection as she is under constant cover of antibiotics selected by me and my dad (both of us are doctors)
but even then its bleeding??
i tried all the gynecology books i know ( i am m.b.b.s and my dad is an MD)
and there is nothing like that in the books!!!

I have t agree with cindylou 2 pads per day is not dangerous bleeding.
Bright red bleeding per vagina usually means the cardinal artery on either side has slipped the pedicle or has torn-through. With this degree of bleeding I would suspect it will stop without specific treatment or it could be directly visualized and cauterized or stitched. Sometime a small vaginal packing will staunch the bleeding.

FIND ANOTHER DR.!!! There is something wrong!! My younger sister had a total Historetomy & she didn't have the problem that your mother is!! & she is 5 years younger than me & i'm 49! Get another opion or take her to the emergency room NOW!!!!!!!!!

maybe there is an infection after the surgery or ther maybe another problem occur or complication of surgery, you may refer her urgently to the Doctor so that he/she may plan for an another treatment that can be effective to your mom or she may again undergone a series of diagnostic examinations to determine the real cause of the bleed.

What color is the blood? I really don't think 2 pads a day is severe. Has she had an H&H done lately?

Anytime you have post-surgical questions you should be calling your surgeon / doctor. Especially if it's related to bleeding questions. Only they are familiar with your personal condition, procedure, etc., and can tell you what is normal and what is not.

If your doctor doesn't seem concerned, then you have two choices - trust their professional opinion, or get a second opinion.
