I'm about to have a hysterectomy. I'm 43 yrs old and not planning to have more kids. Please send me your input

and experiences about this procedure.
Thank you,
greatly appreciated,

First of all, is there a medical reason you've chosen to have a hysterectomy? I can't imagine your doctor would recommend the procedure as a form of permanent birth control. I only mention it because in your question you said you're not planning to have any more kids.

Second, what I understand from people I know who have been through this is that the healing process takes quite awhile. More than likely you will be on hormone replacements, possibly indefinitely, to replace the hormones your body produces naturally. You should be able to talk to your doctor and get more detailed information about what to expect both in the short term and long term.

You sound very sorted - matter of fact. I think you might need to have some time to think this through at a deeper level? i wonder why you are having the procedure and would recommend that you don't unless it is medically essential.

If you go ahead - You will need time to recover - please make sure that you have at least 6 weeks and preferably longer to really recover from this op. Ask close friends and family to support you. Best wishes and good luck.

I had mine 4 years ago, thank God no complications

my mother just had one 4 weeks ago very painful she had a 7 pound tumor on her ovories.. shes lost 33 pounds, and shes doing soo wonderful right now. At first my second hand experience is your not going to like it she said it was horriable, but once your home your in bed and people are at your hand and foot. soo i mean.. I wouldnt wish this procedure on anyone though. but in the end everything turns out okay. :]

We are Child-Free, so when my girlfriend went to get her hysterectomy last year I thought nothing of it. She still has her ovaries. But something has changed.

We have been together for 5 years. Every since she had it, she has been verbally abusive. I also don't like riding in the car when she drives, because she has developed a "road rage" problem. I really don't know what to do.
