I am scheduled to have a Hysterectomy.?

Can you tell me your story and how long you were off work? Pro's/Con's and what questions I should ask?

OK i had one a complete and i made them take my ovaries out too only cause ovarian cancer is so hard to diagnose and i didn't want to wind up bk in the hospital in a few yrs having another surgery~~~so i would advise u to have them out too~~~it is a really easy operation do take a pillow from home for u to ride bk home with and to put it on ur tummy to help when u hit a bump in the road after all they do remove alot and u r tender for quite a few days~~i had a iv in me and i could push a button and give my self pain med when needed but u can never give yourself too much ~~this was gr8 and also i opted to stay for what most insurances call 23 hour observation which allows u to spend the nite and then leave the next morning please do ask about it!!it made it so very much easier~~good luck try to relax its not near as bad as u think my friend said just think there taking out the toys but leaving the play pen lol so good lucj and u will be able to go out and buy white pretty panties!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no more yuk be happy!!!!!!!!!!

well my mom, aunt, and granma had that.
My mom was off work and bed rest for about a month,
but my aunt was off for 2 weeks.

So it verys....good luck!

Hi Sweetie,
U'd think with all the new technology it wud a changed but the time frame remains the same 4-6 weeks depending on the individual of coarse. Ask EVERYTHING like: will I expext any spotting, discharge, nornal sex activity, R Libido up r down,
will my husband/partner notice a diff while sex, bathing r shud u shower, can u r shud u still use a douche, what effects of my period gone shud I expect during each month mentally & physically, how will/shud I feel mentally after, r there any risks, complications I shud be aware of, how will my body inside & out change, will I still have the same sexual drive, will my uterous be dilated r inflated? These r some Hon, if u can think of more write em down, their obligated to answer all in this serious type of surgery r any? I wish U ALL the Best of Luck & envy u as I had a Balloon Abulation, they burn the lining of r uterous, may u shud write that down & ask why U weren't given that option? I'm in/near Toronto, Canada so I don't know if u all do that procedure, but it'd be interesting to know? In Canada that's the last resort, Hysterectomy. Hope some of this helps U? Take Good Care of Rself with lots of R&R, & people to wait on u. haha lol

LOL, Diana D
PS My Sis had one done.

Well, you should determine what body parts you want to get removed. Ignore the person who suggested you get your ovaries out--you're going to need them. A lot of women have a lot of problems after they're removed. Some don't, but your chances of problems are greater if you have them removed than leave them, which is why docs are now starting to recommend to leave them in. Ovarian cancer (which I've had, by the way) is not common enough to warrant ovarian removal unless your ovaries are causing problems. Also, it's becoming more common to leave the cervix in, because it helps to support pelvic floor muscles (so fewer problems with incontinence, and fewer sexual problems).
