What are the pros and cons of having your tubes tied..or a hysterectomy?

I mean having them done as a way of preventing pregnancy. which is best, and what are the good and bad points of both ops.

Doctors don't like to give a woman a hysterectomy for the purpose of birth control. It's major surgery with a long recovery time, and it necessitates the use of hormone therapy in younger women.

Having your tubes tied is a simpler procedure. Your fallopian tubes are clamped or cut. It's not foolproof. Some women's tubes fuse back together. This is more likely to happen 10 years after the procedure.

There's a new sterilizing procedure that's even less invasive. It's called Essure. Metal coils are inserted into the fallopian tubes, and the resulting scar tissue blocks them up. It takes a few months for this procedure to protect you from pregnancy.

Discuss your options with your gynecologist.

you cant have a baby i think

Well having your tubes tied means you wont have kids but hysterectomy is only done for medical reasons so I don't see the connection?

Most Doctors won't do a Hysterectomy unless it is medically necessary.

Getting your tubes tied only prevents pregnancy.

Once you have a hysterectomy you start the 'menopause' i.e. Hot flushes, mood change, possible brittle bone disease etc. The only good thing I found about having a hysterectomy was no more periods!
Having your tubes tied is just a form of contraception albeit a more permanent one.

in hysterectory, there is no possibility of having ovarian cancer since you have no more ovary. you don't worry about monthly period and most of all, if you don't want a baby, you will not have one no matter what. but be ready with the hot flushes which is bothersome. it will occur anytime, anywhere and once you feel it, it's so uncomfortable you would want to undress wherever, and it takes few moments each time it occurs, even as you sleep-you'll wake up sweating.
