Total abdominal hysterectomy (overhang of tummy skin)?

i had a total abdominal hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. My scar is approx 8 inches from hip to hip. I have an overhang of skin on my tummy over my scar which i feel unhappy with. Although its early days and the surrounding area is still numb i am wondering if the stomach will flatten again.
I have been cut several times in the area for appendix and a c-section so this is the 3rd time of being cut.
At 36 years of age i am concerned by my appearence and for my own satisfaction am already considering further surgery to rectify this if it does not retract.
I would love to here from anyone with similar experiences or a general idea of how long it may take to retract.
Also how long i would need to wait after this op to undertake a tummy tuck if necessary.
Other than this the op has been successful. Even the HRT hasnt been that bad.
Sensible anwers only. Thanks.

Thanks MS. That was a lovely reply. I too have/had endometreoses. Both my bowel and bladder together with my f.tubes and overies were all welded together which i discovered post op. On the whole i already feel much better. Thanks for your kind wishes.

My wife had to have a total @ the age of 28 due to endometriosis. I am not in the medical field but my understanding is it is not unusual to have your belly hang more afterward. Ask a doctor to be sure, but I think they say be very careful not to lift heavy things after abdominal surgery to avoid adhesion's & scar tissue. Check out some medical cites on the web by using search engines like Google, just remeber that not everything you read on the web is correct. The most important thing is to realize you are the same you. Try to not let it make you feel bad about yourself. All of us get hung up on our appearence, but what matters is who we are on the inside, what we do for others, do we make the world a better place. Make sure to speak with a doctor with any questions or concerns, especialy if you think you are developing complications from surgery. Best wishes.
