If I have a hysterectomy, will I be asleep or just numb and how long to recover?

If I have a hysterectomy, will I be asleep or just numb and how long to recover?

general anesthesia (abdominal hysterectomy) - you'll be knocked out
spinal anesthesia (vaginal hysterectomy) - you'll be numb
duration of operation - 2 hours
recovery time -
urinary catheter out - day 2
you'll be able to walk about - day 3
normal diet - day 2
sutures out - day 7 to day 10
able to lift weights - 6 weeks post operative
able to travel - after 4 weeks

I had a hysterectomy last year and I was asleep and it I was back at work after 6 weeks and for me it took me a full year to gain my strength back. It was the best thing I ever did.

You'll put out.. You definitely don't want to be awake..
It will take about 6-8 weeks before you feel better but, it also depends on the person.. Some recover faster than others.

they put you to sleep, and you'll need at least 6 weeks for recovery. good luck!

You will be asleep. Recovery time is usually six weeks.

They will use general so U'll be asleep. I stayed at the hospital only one night. The doctor went from below instead of cutting my muscle wall on the outside of my tummy. My uterus was small enough to get it out that way. Left in the ovaries but we took out the cervix (one less thing to turn into cancer later). Life is so much better now. My blood work is normal and no more abnormal bleeding. Best thing I ever done! My recovery time was quick (<one wk) and back to work in a week.

You will be numb,It took me 3 weeks to totally recover from mine. Here's some advise that you didn't ask. Once your incision heals be careful how you turn your waist,as you well know the incision cuts muscle's if you turn the wrong way or too fast it will pull a stomach muscle, been there done that. And your Doctor won't tell you about it either.

oh you'll be out....and tell your husband he aint getting any for 6 weeks
