Hysterectomy recovery question?

I keep being told that I won't be able to drive for a period of time after my hysterectomy. And, I'm fine with that, but I just don't understand why.

I didn't think to ask this particular question when I last saw my Dr.

I'm 42 - it's a abdominal surgery and it's for fibroids.

I know after my surgery, there was no way I could have been able to stop a car. You don't realize it, but you use your abdominal muscles when applying pressure to the brake - and your muscles have been cut; therefore requiring time to heal. You also shouldn't be lugging baskets of laundry or walking up and down steps. If you do, you will only lengthen the time it takes your body to heal.

After abdominal surgery of pretty much any kind, it is recommended that one not drive for a certain period of time. The reason is that if the car stops suddenly, your seatbelt will press against your abdomen. But of course, this means that you really shouldn't be a passenger, either. But I guess it's a public safety risk if you are the driver.

the muscles are tender and the force from suddenly jurking your feet up to stop could re open sutures and hurt like he double hockey sticks, and cause bleeding.

after any kind of surgery your insides are so sore things insides been cut and redone there's stitches that takes time to heal and driving too early can make you bleed, to stop that bleeding they may haves to go back inside so take your time and don't rush the healing.

I was told all of this because of scar tissue. I did these things and now have scar tissue so bad they can't do surgery anymore to remove it.

I am sooo sorry, sweetie .....
:(

I hope you are feeling better soon ..... !!!! :-)
